World Environment Day, PT Timah Takes Real Action: Collecting Plastic Waste and Planting Trees on the Beach

KUNDUR -- In commemoration of World Environment Day 2025, PT Timah Tbk through its Kundur Division Area organized a beach clean-up and tree planting activity at Teluk Dalam Beach, Kundur, Karimun Regency, Riau Islands Province, on Wednesday (June 4, 2025).

The tree planting and plastic waste collection were not only meant to mark World Environment Day but also served as a tangible step by PT Timah in supporting the preservation of coastal ecosystems.

For 2025, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) has designated the global theme of World Environment Day as "Ending Plastic Pollution."

Through the beach clean-up and plastic waste collection activities, PT Timah also aimed to educate the public on reducing plastic usage to help mitigate the global plastic pollution crisis.

PT Timah’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, stated that in celebration of World Environment Day, PT Timah carried out a series of activities, including a commemorative ceremony held at its operational areas.

"PT Timah is committed to sustainable environmental management. On this occasion of World Environment Day, PT Timah organized beach clean-up and tree planting efforts as part of its commitment to protect coastal ecosystems," Anggi said.

Amrizal, head of the Fishermen’s Group in Dusun IV, Kundur Village, who participated in the activity, expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by PT Timah employees in Kundur Division Area through the beach clean-up and tree planting.

"PT Timah has done a lot for the community and the environment, and we, as residents, really benefit from the company’s presence here," he said.

"There’s a lot of plastic waste, especially along the beach, most of which is carried in by the tides. The local community here has become more aware and now throws their trash in designated spots," he added.

According to him, this isn’t the first time PT Timah has carried out tree planting activities—similar initiatives, such as mangrove and productive plantings, have been done frequently.

"These tree plantings are crucial for preventing coastal erosion, especially since there are many homes along this coastline. We hope PT Timah continues to involve the local community in these efforts, so people can be directly educated on the importance of keeping the environment clean, particularly from harmful plastic waste," he said.

Similarly, the head of RT 018 in Dusun IV, Dedy, also appreciated PT Timah’s attention to the environment through various initiatives, including mangrove planting, crab release, and the installation of anti-erosion structures.

"We’ve truly felt the benefits of PT Timah’s environmental programs. Hopefully, PT Timah continues to thrive and grow in the future," he concluded.
