World Environment Day 2025: PT Timah’s Environmental Preservation Initiatives – From Plastic Waste Collection to Tree Planting

PANGKALPINANG — In commemoration of World Environment Day 2025, PT Timah carried out a series of environmentally focused initiatives that were not merely ceremonial, but a tangible manifestation of the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Through collaboration between management, employees, and surrounding communities, various activities were held simultaneously across several of the company’s operational sites. These environmental preservation efforts align with the 2025 World Environment Day theme: “Ending Plastic Pollution.”

PT Timah’s World Environment Day activities included tree-planting initiatives in the regencies of Karimun, Kundur, and Bangka. Thousands of trees were planted, such as cashew, sea almond, beach pine, and other productive species.

Additionally, PT Timah organized an Environment Day ceremony at its operational areas to raise awareness among employees about reducing plastic waste.

As a member of the MIND ID Mining Industry Holding, PT Timah also conducted beach cleanup events and collected plastic waste. These cleanups took place at Batu Tunggal Beach in Bangka Regency and Teluk Dalam Beach in Kundur. The activities resulted in the collection of dozens of kilograms of plastic waste.

To further reduce plastic waste, PT Timah held webinars on waste management in Bangka Island and Karimun Regency. These webinars carried themes such as “The Ocean Is Not a Trash Bin: Best Practices for Plastic Waste Management on Tin Production Vessels” and “Managing Hazardous and Domestic Waste in the Environment.”

PT Timah collaborated with the Environmental Agencies of Bangka and Karimun Regencies, local communities, and tourism awareness groups to carry out these environmental conservation efforts.

PT Timah’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, emphasized that Environment Day is more than just symbolic—it is a moment to build collective awareness.

“The company conducts a sustainable business process, with environmental preservation being one of our key focuses. These efforts are not only carried out during World Environment Day but are part of our ongoing commitment,” Anggi stated.

These environmental programs form part of the company’s sustainability strategy in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goals 12 and 13, which relate to responsible consumption and production, and climate action.

“Environmental stewardship is a shared responsibility. That’s why these initiatives are designed to be inclusive, collaborative, and focused on long-term impact,” she added.

PT Timah’s World Environment Day initiatives serve as a symbol that protecting nature is not a seasonal obligation. The company’s commitment continues through sustainable programs such as ecosystem restoration, integrated waste processing, biodiversity conservation, and the development of environmentally friendly energy.
