Welcoming its 48th Anniversary, PT Timah Hands Over 4800 Mangrove Seedlings to the Community

PANGKALPINANG -- In celebration of its 48th anniversary, PT Timah handed over 4,800 mangrove trees to Karang Taruna Becampak, Baskara Bakti Village, Namang District, Central Bangka Regency.

The handover of mangrove seedlings was carried out in conjunction with the commemoration of World Mangrove Day which fell on July 26. The mangroves that were handed over were also immediately planted in the Menuang Beach area, Baskara Bakti Village.

This mangrove seedling assistance is part of a series of movements to plant 48,000 trees carried out by PT Timah throughout the company's operational areas in celebration of the company's 48th anniversary which falls on August 2, 2024.

Apart from planting 48,000 trees, PT Timah also distributed 4,800 seedling trees to the community, planted 480 productive trees in the company's operational areas, and planted 48 local trees which were carried out in the Tanjung Air Reclamation Village.

The chairman of the Becampak Youth Organization, Nurholis, appreciated PT Timah's commitment to carrying out mangrove planting in their village for two years in a row and handing over mangrove seedlings.

This mangrove planting is an effort to maintain the ecosystem of coastal areas which will later be developed into tourist areas.

"Thank you to PT Timah for entrusting us to plant mangroves here for the second time. We can see that the mangroves planted last year have grown. In the future, we will develop this into a mangrove tourism and beach tourism area," he said.

He hopes that PT Timah, at the age of 48, will continue to exist and remain committed to supporting environmental preservation in various regions so that it can protect the ecosystem.

Likewise, the Head of Basakara Bakti Village, Bahtiar Efendi, appreciated PT Timah's commitment to helping prevent abrasion by planting mangroves. By replanting coastal habitats it can have an economic impact on the community.

"Thank you PT Timah and Karang Taruna who have done extraordinary work to carry out this mangrove planting and the benefits will be felt by the community," he said. (*)
