Watershed Rehabilitation in the Mount Sepang Area, PT TAM and Korem 045 Planting Style 66,000 Trees

BELITUNG – PT Timah Agro Manunggal (PT TAM), a subsidiary of PT Timah, in collaboration with Korem 045 Gaya, has begun planting 66,000 eucalyptus and other trees in the Gunung Sepang area, Buding Village, East Belitung Regency, on Thursday (31/10/2024).

Covering 60 hectares, this eucalyptus tree planting is part of PT Timah’s watershed rehabilitation program, with completion expected in stages by the end of 2024.

This tree-planting initiative aligns with the Indonesian Army’s (TNI AD) environmental program, which promotes forestation efforts. PT TAM joined forces with Korem 045 Gaya to help green the Gunung Sepang area.

Rehabilitation is crucial in Gunung Sepang, which has experienced severe fires, making reforestation essential as part of the watershed restoration project.

PT TAM President Director Dicky Sinoritha explained that PT TAM has been tasked by PT Timah with rehabilitating a 280-hectare watershed area. This project is being conducted in partnership with various organizations, including the Indonesian Army.

“For the tree planting in Gunung Sepang, PT TAM is collaborating with the Indonesian Army, represented by Korem 045 Gaya, to plant 66,000 eucalyptus trees over 60 hectares. This effort aligns with the TNI AD’s mission to unite with nature,” Dicky stated.

He added that the partnership with Korem 045 Gaya will extend beyond Belitung to areas like South Bangka and others.

"This watershed rehabilitation project with the TNI will serve as a pilot project. PT TAM was appointed by MIND ID as the stream manager for reclamation, land rehabilitation, and post-mining projects within the MIND ID Group. We plan to expand tree planting across Indonesia," he explained.

Dicky noted that these eucalyptus trees will not only green the area but, once grown, will provide resources the surrounding community can utilize.

“We hope this collaboration proceeds smoothly, allowing the tree-planting program to succeed, and ultimately benefiting the local community,” he said. (*)
