PANGKALPINANG – PT Timah continues to strive to provide benefits to the community, not only through its corporate social and environmental responsibility programs but also through the Unit Pengumpulan Zakat (UPZ) of PT Timah.
UPZ PT Timah is a body that collects zakat from the company's employees, which is then distributed to the needy. The zakat collected is used to help underprivileged communities, provide educational assistance, and healthcare, and meet other basic needs.
Recently, UPZ PT Timah also distributed business capital assistance and tents to 34 MSMEs in the company's operational areas to support the independence of MSMEs and community empowerment.
To further encourage Zakat donations among employees, the Human Capital Division and UPZ PT Timah held a webinar titled Culture Talk "Management and Utilization of Zakat", which took place virtually on Monday (September 30, 2024).
This webinar, attended by PT Timah employees, was also graced by the Director of Human Resources PT Timah, Hendra Kusuma Wardana, and featured a speaker, Mohan, the Head of Employee Zakat Collection Division from Baznas RI.
Hendra Kusuma Wardana, in his remarks, emphasized that there are many ways to express gratitude and share benefits with others. In Islamic terminology, one way to share is through zakat.
He highlighted that zakat management by UPZ is conducted transparently and openly, focusing on ensuring that the zakat benefits recipients and empowers them toward independence.
The webinar aimed to remind employees to channel their zakat through UPZ PT Timah to create a larger positive impact on the community.
“Taking small steps to support zakat programs in the company is essential. It is important to understand zakat in both business and social contexts. I encourage all PT Timah employees to contribute their zakat through UPZ PT Timah so that the benefits can be greater,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mohan, the Head of the Employee Zakat Collection Division from Baznas RI, expressed appreciation for the longstanding zakat management program at PT Timah, which has benefited the community.
“Zakat management at PT Timah has been running for a long time, and we greatly appreciate the management's efforts to revive zakat collection through UPZ PT Timah,” he said.
According to him, zakat managed collectively within an institution amplifies its impact, allowing more significant benefits to reach the community.
As is known, zakat has various dimensions, including spiritual, social, and economic aspects. (*)
