United for Maritime Indonesia: PT DAK and PT PAL Indonesia Forge Partnership to Strengthen the National Shipbuilding Industry

Surabaya -- PT Dok dan Perkapalan Air Kantung (PT DAK), a subsidiary of PT Timah Tbk, continues to demonstrate its commitment to strengthening Indonesia’s national maritime industry. As part of its efforts to expand strategic collaboration among state-owned enterprises, PT DAK paid an official visit to the headquarters of PT PAL Indonesia. The visit marked the signing of a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA), laying the foundation for future synergies in the development of the national shipbuilding industry, on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

This collaboration aligns with the directive of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, who emphasized the importance of national independence through the reinforcement of strategic industries, including the maritime and defense sectors.

The NDA was signed by Acting President Director of PT DAK, Bambang Wibisono, and President Director of PT PAL Indonesia, Kaharuddin Djenod, witnessed by Director of Business Development of PT Timah Tbk, Suhendra Yusuf Ratuprawiranegara.

PT PAL Indonesia’s President Director, Kaharuddin Djenod, expressed that cooperation among domestic shipyards is a concrete step toward building a resilient and sustainable industrial ecosystem. “PT PAL cannot do it alone. We need synergy with other shipyards. Collaborations like this are expected to open doors for further cooperation and serve as inspiration for other industry players,” he said.

Echoing that sentiment, PT DAK’s Acting President Director, Bambang Wibisono, emphasized that this partnership is a strategic move to enhance PT DAK’s presence and capabilities in the eyes of the public and industry partners. “We will soon conduct an inventory check of the available supporting equipment at PT DAK’s facilities in preparation for this upcoming collaboration,” he added.

The collaboration is fully supported by PT Timah Tbk as the parent company. Director of Business Development of PT Timah Tbk, Suhendra Yusuf Ratuprawiranegara, stated that PT DAK’s involvement in a partnership with PT PAL Indonesia is a tangible step in transforming its subsidiary to contribute to the national strategic sector. “We hope this collaboration not only delivers commercial impact but also strengthens domestic industrial resilience and self-sufficiency,” he said.

As part of the agenda, the PT DAK delegation also conducted a site visit to PT PAL Indonesia’s production facilities, including the “Irian” 20,000 DWT Graving Dock and the “Semarang” 50,000 DWT North Gate Graving Dock, to directly assess the technical potential for future cooperation.

In the near future, PT PAL Indonesia is also scheduled to conduct a reciprocal visit to PT DAK’s shipyard to assess its readiness and align on technical coordination.

With a spirit of collaboration and innovation, the synergy between PT PAL and PT DAK is expected to become a driving force for advancing Indonesia’s shipbuilding industry, supporting the nation’s maritime independence and excellence.
