Two Deer Cubs a Week Born in PT Timah Tbk's Large Primary Iron Mine Captivity, This is the Hope of the Head of the East Belitung Environment Agency

EAST BELITUNG - Within one week, as many as two sambar deer calves were born in captivity at the Large Primary New Iron Mine managed by PT Timah Tbk in East Belitung Regency.

Previously, a male sambar deer was born on Monday (08/05) and Friday (12/05) another female was born.

Thus, the female deer calf is the fourth child born since the sambar deer was in captivity managed by PT Timah Tbk in March 2022.

According to the Head of the East Belitung Regency Environmental Service, Novis Ezuar, sambar deer captive breeding has played a positive role, especially in utilizing ex-mining land to keep the sambar deer population from going extinct.

"So far the captive breeding has been going well, because we have seen that the sambar deer are breeding quite well, having given birth to four fawns," said Novis Ezuar.

He explained that the sambar deer captivity really needs to be maintained because it has been proven to help the deer to develop safely and comfortably.

According to him, in the future, this area can become an educational tour for the public about animals.

"In the future, it can become an educational tour related to the existence of this protected animal," he said.

He hopes that this deer captivity will continue to exist so that later it can continue to grow and become a breeding ground for deer.

He suggested, so that later if there are already a lot of deer pay attention to their location. So, the deer can continue to reproduce well.

"Now it is feared that if there are many deer in that location, there is fear that the capacity of the location will not be sufficient and will interfere with the deer breeding," he said. (*)
