BANGKA -- As part of its commitment to environmental preservation and community empowerment, PT Timah Tbk provided education to residents of Sungailiat through a training session on processing organic waste into compost. The activity took place at the 3R TPS Sehati Waste Management Group building in the Semenggah area, Sungailiat Subdistrict, Bangka Regency, on Thursday (July 24, 2025).
The training, organized by PT Timah through its Engineering & Operation Excellence Division, targeted the management and members of the Sehati Waste Management Group (KPP Sehati) as well as the local community.
Through this composting workshop, PT Timah encourages the use of household waste to produce useful and economically valuable products while reducing environmental pollution.

PT Timah’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, stated that the company is making efforts to improve environmental management by involving community groups, particularly in waste processing, so it can generate economic benefits.
“This training is part of PT Timah’s environmental social responsibility. Organic waste can be processed into compost, while non-organic waste can be recycled and has market value. This is in line with KPP Sehati's tagline: Turn Waste into Money, Turn the Environment Clean,” said Anggi.
He added that PT Timah will continue to support and guide waste management groups in its operational areas to help create a healthy and sustainable environment.
Meanwhile, the Head of Sungailiat Subdistrict, Farid Anshary, appreciated PT Timah’s active collaboration with the Sungailiat Subdistrict, especially in the Semenggah and Parit Pekir areas.
“We’re very thankful for PT Timah’s attention to our community. This composting training is very useful in addressing the waste problem in our area. We hope this kind of collaboration continues and doesn’t stop at ceremonial events,” said Farid.
He also noted that public interest was quite high, and he hopes the program will be sustained and expanded into other types of recycling training.
Similarly, KPP Sehati Chairperson Alfisyah Arsyad welcomed the training and described it as the first collaboration with PT Timah that has provided a direct and tangible positive impact.
“In the past, residents used to mix all their waste and dispose of it carelessly. Now, thanks to the 3R waste station, people have started sorting their waste at home—separating organic from inorganic—and selling it to the station, which also functions as a savings system. Waste becomes money, and the environment stays clean,” explained Alfisyah.
She also expressed hope that the program would continue with additional training in recycling to create crafts from waste, such as tissue boxes or decorative flowers made from household materials, involving more residents, especially women.
“We hope PT Timah continues to support and enhance empowerment programs for us residents of Parit Pekir, especially by providing recycling craft training like making tissue boxes or flower decorations from waste,” she said.
With an educational and collaborative approach, PT Timah is not only contributing to waste reduction but also building awareness and skills within the community for sustainable environmental management.
