Bangka Barat -- The Museum Timah Indonesia Mentok, managed by PT TIMAH Tbk, continues to be an educational historical destination that draws the interest of visitors, including families of World War II victims from various countries.
Dozens of families of World War II victims visited the museum as part of a series of pilgrimage and remembrance activities to honor their ancestors who lost their lives in the Mentok area on Tuesday (February 17, 2026).
Before visiting the museum, the families gathered for prayers at Raji Beach and Tanjung Kalian as a sign of respect for the war victims. The Museum Timah Indonesia Mentok then became one of the main destinations during their stay in the historic town of Mentok.
Rodney Pierce, one of the family members of a World War II victim, said he felt comfortable during his visit to Mentok because of the hospitality of the local community.
“The people of Mentok are very friendly and welcoming. They waved and smiled at us, which made us feel comfortable while we were here,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation for the Museum Timah Indonesia Mentok as a well-preserved historic building. According to him, the museum serves as an important space to remember history while sharing stories of the past with today’s generation.
“Mentok is an old town, and this museum is one of the historic buildings that has been well restored. I’m proud that the history of our country and our family members who died here is told in the museum. It’s an excellent educational resource for visitors,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Culture and Tourism Office of West Bangka Regency, Fakhriansah, said that visits by families of World War II victims to Mentok have become an annual agenda.
In addition to conducting pilgrimage rituals, they always take time to visit the Museum Timah Indonesia Mentok.
“Every year, families of World War II victims come to Mentok to pay their respects and pray for their ancestors who passed away here. The Museum Timah Indonesia is one of the main destinations because it contains the history of World War II events that took place in this area. They are pleased that these stories are still being preserved,” he said.
As a museum managed by PT TIMAH Tbk, the Museum Timah Indonesia Mentok not only presents the history of the tin mining industry but also records various significant events that occurred in the Mentok area, making it an educational space that enriches the knowledge of both local and international visitors.
