WEST KUNDUR -- To increase the catch of fishermen, PT Timah Tbk handed over 25 units of ketinting engines to the fishing group of KUB Layang Mekar Berseri, Sawang Village, Kundur Barat District, Karimun Regency, Thursday (29/12/2022).
Head of the Mekar Berseri Layang Fishermen Group, Razali said that 25 fishermen who are members of their group are traditional fishermen. Their fishing distance is also not too far, still around the coast of Sawai and Laut Kundur.
They cannot go further out to sea due to limited fishing equipment. The help of the ketinting engine provided by PT Timah Tbk is really needed by them so that the fishing area can be further away.
He added, with a relatively close fishing distance, their catches were also not many. To go further out to sea they are also worried because the engines often break down.
"Meanwhile, it is difficult to buy new ones, because the catch is only enough for daily needs," he said.
He appreciates the assistance given to fishing communities, especially their groups, because this machine is really needed.
"Assistance like this really helps us, we are very happy because we can go to sea even further. Hopefully in the future the company can continue to progress and develop," he said.
Meanwhile, the Fisherman Head of the Sawang Village, said that this assistance was very helpful for the fishermen. Moreover, many of the machines owned by members of their group are damaged and unfit for use. Even worrying if forced to go to sea with long distances.
"Hopefully this assistance can help and reduce costs for engine repairs and it is hoped that with a good engine it can increase catches," he said.
In the same vein, the Head of West Kundur Sub-District, Khaidir appreciates PT Timah Tbk who cares and pays attention to the community, especially the fishermen in West Kundur.
"Hopefully in the future PT Timah can develop and progress, so that its contribution to society can continue," he concluded.
