Together with the Community, PT Timah Promotes the Preservation of Mapur Indigenous Culture

BANGKA -- PT Timah continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting cultural preservation in the company’s operational areas. As a member of the MIND ID Mining Industry Holding, the company integrates indigenous cultural preservation programs into its sustainability initiatives.

One concrete form of the company’s support for indigenous communities is its efforts to promote the preservation of the traditions of the Mapur indigenous people. Through collaboration with traditional leaders and communities, PT Timah supports the implementation of the Nuju Jerami tradition in Dusun Air Abik, Gunung Muda Village, Belinyu District, Bangka Regency.

Nuju Jerami is a long-standing tradition of the Mapur Indigenous People, serving as an expression of gratitude for the rice harvest. This activity is not only a symbol of local culture but also a core part of the community’s identity that has been passed down from generation to generation.

Previously, PT Timah had also supported the development of the Gebong Memarong Traditional Village and provided various training for indigenous communities, such as handicrafts, eco-printing, and tour guide training.

The Head of Belinyu Sub-district, Lingga Pranata, expressed his appreciation for PT Timah’s role and contribution in preserving the local traditions in his area.

“This event is a regular activity carried out by the indigenous people of Dusun Air Abik as a celebration of their rice harvest. It is a foundational part of the Lom Mapur tribe’s culture and a heritage from our ancestors that we, as the next generation, are obligated to preserve,” he said.

According to him, PT Timah’s commitment to cultural preservation reflects the company’s concern for maintaining the heritage of indigenous communities.

“Thank you to PT Timah for always supporting the Nuju Jerami event and other activities in Dusun Air Abik. This clearly shows PT Timah’s presence in the community, providing full support to the people of Air Abik,” Lingga added.

He also hopes that these activities will continue to be preserved and even enhanced to maintain the local traditions in his region.

“This event is a communal celebration for all the residents of Dusun Air Abik. We hope it continues to run smoothly and grows more festive with each passing year,” he said.

PT Timah’s support for the Mapur Indigenous People is not limited to cultural preservation but also includes character development within the community.

“We also hope for further collaboration between PT Timah and the government to help develop Dusun Air Abik into a traditional village. We give high praise to PT Timah for everything they’ve done,” he concluded.
