KARIMUN -- -- To increase the population of mangrove crabs in the Karimun Regency Region, PT Timah Tbk released 200 mangrove crab chicks in the Mangrove Area of ??Pongkar Village, Tebing District, Karimun Regency, Riau Islands Province, Monday (22/8/2022).
The release of this mangrove crab is also an effort to maintain the balance of the ecosystem in the region. At the same time, it is expected to have an economic impact on the community because it has a high economic value.
The mangrove release activity was also appreciated by the surrounding community, they were also directly involved in this activity.
The head of Pongkar Village, Abdul Jamal, said that his party was very happy with this activity because it was known that the mangrove crab population in Pongkar Village was very minimal.
"We are very happy and support this activity. As we all know, the current population of mangrove crabs in Pongkar Village is very minimal and can hardly be found anymore," he said.
Similarly, Iskandar, one of the fishermen in Pongkar Village, said that the demand for crabs is quite high, but currently, the crab population in their village is starting to be challenging to find.
"The mangrove crab population has been greatly reduced while the demand for consumption is very high," he said.
He hoped that the released crabs could develop well so that they could increase the crab population.
"Currently, the prospect of crabs is very good and there are many enthusiasts, so that later if this program is successful and the crab population is maintained, it will certainly have a good impact on fishermen," he said.
