To Ensure That the Mangroves Planted on Kundur Island Grow Well, PT Timah Carries Out Routine Monitoring

KUNDUR -- PT Timah routinely carries out mangrove planting on Kundur Island, Karimun Regency, Riau Islands Province as an effort to carry out sustainable environmental management.

The mangroves planted include perpat and api-api which are planted in coastal areas on Kundur Island.

Not just planting, PT Timah also carries out direct monitoring of the growth and development of mangroves that have been planted. This monitoring aims to ensure that the mangroves planted can grow well.

Head of Corporate Communications, Anggi Siahaan, said that the mangrove planting carried out on Kundur Island was a form of sea reclamation carried out by the company.

This is also the company's effort to help reduce the impact of abrasion in coastal areas.

"By planting mangroves, in the future, we hope to be able to reduce the impact of abrasion around the planting location so that the coastline does not erode quickly," said Anggi.

Meanwhile, Chairman of West Kundur Fishermen, Ahmad, said that PT Timah's efforts in managing the environment by planting mangroves and installing abrasion barriers were very good and appropriate.

"We express our gratitude for PT Timah's concern in protecting the surrounding environment by planting mangroves and installing abrasion barriers. This will reduce the impact of abrasion," he said.

In the future, they hope that activities like this will continue, so that not only will it have a good impact on the environment but also the traditional fishing communities in the area will benefit.

"Mangroves will become a habitat for the development of good fish, shrimp, and crab breeding. Tantu is a hope for fishermen," he said.

Meanwhile, Elvi Yanti, Head of Environment from West Kundur District, said that the environmental conservation activities carried out by PT Timah were very good for protecting the marine ecosystem.

"We hope that PT Timah routinely carries out mangrove planting and nature conservation activities can continue to be sustainable. Including supervision and monitoring will also continue to be carried out so that the results can be seen," he said. (*)
