PANGKALPINANG – PT Timah's commitment to sustainable human resource development continues to grow. Through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program, PT Timah offers innovative programs in education.
PT Timah's educational programs are diverse, ranging from educational scholarships, and training for students and teachers, to supporting educational facilities and infrastructure.
One of the programs PT Timah continues to run is the Timah Mengajar (Timah Teaching) program, which aims to enhance teacher literacy and was launched in 2022. This program is designed to improve teachers' capabilities in writing scientific papers.
The Timah Mengajar program is implemented in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province and the Riau Islands Province. A total of 110 teachers have participated in this literacy program.
PT Timah collaborates with the Bangka Belitung Provincial Education Office, the Bangka Belitung Language Office, and the Sekawan Literacy Community to provide education on scientific writing, which can later be passed on to students.
Writing scientific papers offers many benefits for teachers, such as developing professionalism, improving the quality of teaching, advancing education, and broadening their knowledge.
In the future, teachers who have participated in this literacy program are expected to become more critical and accustomed to systematic thinking, which can be applied to student learning.
Teachers with a proper understanding of scientific writing, especially in promoting literacy through their work, can become inspirations for students.
The Timah Mengajar program is expected to help fulfill the competency development needs in performance management for teachers who are civil servants (ASN), particularly when specific points are required for rank/grade promotion.
One of the teachers who participated in PT Timah's Teacher Literacy program, Marini, an elementary school teacher at SDN 4 Kelapa Kampit in East Belitung, said the Timah Mengajar program was enjoyable and beneficial for improving teachers' potential in writing.
"The benefit I felt was an increase in competence, especially in literacy. We also made new friends, which allows us to collaborate in promoting literacy," she said.
In the future, she plans to create a literacy program at her school in collaboration with other teachers and the school principal.
Marini hopes that PT Timah will continue to support education to develop excellent human resources, enabling them to manage Bangka Belitung's tin resources wisely and in an environmentally friendly manner.
Similarly, Asinah, a teacher at TK Negeri Pembina Manggar, also appreciated the training. According to her, she gained new insights into literacy development.
"In the future, we will share what we learned from this training with other teachers to encourage more writing, especially writing articles and popular scientific papers," she said. (*)
