Through the Kemunting Program, PT Timah Invites Students in West Bangka to Become Agents of Change in Preventing Stunting

WEST BANGKA -- PT Timah Tbk encourages students in West Bangka Regency to become agents of change in preventing stunting. This was conveyed in the Stunting Reduction Program (Kemunting) conducted by PT Timah Tbk at Wisma Sriwijaya Unit Metalurgi Mentok, West Bangka, on Tuesday (12/12/2023).

The Kemunting Program by PT Timah Tbk featured Muhamad Syafei Rangkuti, the Head of the Health Office of West Bangka, and Dr. Nazif, a reproductive endocrinology fertility consultant, and Asosiasi Ibu Menyusui (AIMI).

Muhamad Syafei Rangkuti, the Head of the Health Office of West Bangka, stated that the Kemunting program for students in West Bangka is highly positive. It is hoped that students become agents of change in tackling stunting.

"The Kemunting Program by PT Timah is very positive, especially since the participants in the socialization are school children, still pure, clean, and can become agents of change for the wider community," he said.

He hopes that students can help reduce the incidence of stunting in West Bangka Regency by providing education about stunting to people in their communities.

"Our hope for the participants or students is that they can become agents of change, our spokespersons, conveying information to the community, so that those who do not understand the dangers of stunting become aware. With the role of students, it is hoped that West Bangka Regency can be free from stunting," he added.

One of the students from a vocational school in Muntok, Aldian, expressed that through PT Timah Tbk's Kemunting Program, they gained new knowledge about stunting.

"This socialization is very good because we as students get to know what stunting is and what its risks are. Because stunting has a significant impact on achieving Indonesia EMAS in 2045, in which we, as students, play a significant role in that program," he said.

Meanwhile, Novelika mentioned that through the Kemunting socialization by PT Timah Tbk, she learned that early marriage is one of the causes of the birth of stunted children.

"This socialization is very beneficial for students because we get an explanation of the risks of early marriage, as early marriage is a cause of stunting," said this 10th-grade student from SMKN Mentok.

Meanwhile, Mentok Subdistrict Chief Sukandi appreciated the Kemunting Program Socialization organized by PT Timah for students in their area.

He mentioned that in Mentok Subdistrict, there are several children who have been detected to experience stunting.

"The Kemunting Program by PT Timah Tbk can help the government in reducing the stunting rate because in Mentok Subdistrict, there are also children experiencing stunting. Hopefully, with this socialization, these children can help prevent stunting," he concluded. (*)
