Through the Collaborative Internship Program, PT Timah Involves Students in the Company's TJSL Program

PANGKALPINANG -- PT Timah Continues Its Commitment to Supporting Education by Offering Internship Opportunities for Students. PT Timah remains committed to supporting the world of education, one of which is by providing opportunities for students to engage in various educational programs through internships.

This initiative aligns with PT Timah's commitment to supporting Indonesia's younger generation in developing skills and abilities that meet industry needs. It also provides practical experience outside the classroom, enriching students' knowledge and supporting the efforts of MIND ID, the Mining Industry Holding Company, to improve the quality of education in Indonesia.

Students are involved in a range of company activities, from operational tasks to governance and environmental aspects, allowing them to gain a deep understanding of the company's business processes as well as its social and environmental responsibilities.

Two students from the Bangka Belitung University (UBB), Fathonah Aurora and Azzura Puti Faradiba, both majoring in Agribusiness at the Faculty of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Marine Science, shared their collaborative internship experience at PT Timah, which took place in the CSR Division from July 10 to October 31, 2024.

During their internship, they focused on studying Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and were involved in the company's Community Development and Empowerment Programs (PPM).

In this internship, they supported various CSR initiatives, such as the agroforestry program. This program involves land management that combines trees with annual crops on the same land, utilizing former mining sites for the cultivation of productive plants and freshwater fish, as well as empowering local farmer groups.

These programs aim to create productive, environmentally friendly land, improve the welfare of local communities, and ensure environmental sustainability in Bangka Belitung.

The students also participated in a variety of activities, including monitoring PT Timah's partner SMEs, activities at the Tins Gallery, and monitoring the Community Development and Empowerment programs. These included the Agroforestry Program in Muntok, the School of Entrepreneurship for people with disabilities, freshwater fish farming programs, the Oto Sehat program, the Mangrove Planting and Cultivation program, discussions on agricultural land management, agricultural product marketing strategies, and empowerment of local farmer groups moving forward.

Additionally, PT Timah Tbk also has programs such as the Pemali Boarding School, Indigenous Community Conservation Programs in the Mining Circle, the Fishing Ground program, Squid Attractor program, Coral Garden program, Salt Cultivation program, SME Development program, Integrated Pineapple Innovation Program in Belitung, and the Bela Nusantara Program (Inclusive and Sustainable Sea Welfare).

In the implementation of these activities, PT Timah Tbk also involves stakeholders, including local and central government (Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises and the Ministry of Environment). Stakeholder involvement includes planning for the utilization of post-mining land and training or workshops for SMEs to improve the knowledge of partner communities.

“The internship program at PT Timah Tbk, which focuses on managing agricultural and environmental programs with a sustainable approach, has been a valuable learning experience,” said Fathonah.

She added that PT Timah Tbk had provided deep insights into the application of agribusiness strategies in CSR, particularly in efforts to empower local communities and create job opportunities based on local resources.

Similarly, Azzura stated, "Through this internship, agribusiness students not only gain knowledge but also valuable experience. We learned that innovation and sustainability are key to turning challenges into opportunities in sectors that directly impact society, such as agriculture, fisheries, marine science, tourism, and mining."

This internship program is expected to enhance collaboration between active, creative, and innovative young generations, the educational world, and the environmentally sustainable mining sector, thereby strengthening Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as PT Timah Tbk’s contribution to improving the welfare and development of local communities.
