Through its TJSL Program, PT Timah Supports Regional Development

PANGKALPINANG—As part of its commitment to growing and thriving alongside local communities, PT Timah continues to initiate a range of sustainable programs across various sectors that serve as vital pillars for community development, local economic growth, and regional advancement.

As a state-representative tin mining company, PT Timah understands that business success is not solely measured by financial performance but also by the positive impact created for communities and the surrounding environment.

To realize this commitment, PT Timah consistently implements various Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programs focused on community empowerment, environmental preservation, and improving quality of life.

These programs are designed to deliver tangible and sustainable benefits to local communities, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

PT Timah’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, stated that the company continues to present program initiatives to support regional development and drive the local economy.

“The company remains committed to contributing to the community and surrounding environment to support regional development. Through synergy and support from various stakeholders, PT Timah aims to be a driving force in boosting local economic growth,” said Anggi.

PT Timah’s Initiatives Supporting Regional Development:

Education Sector

PT Timah runs several programs to improve human resource quality in its mining areas, including scholarships such as the PT Timah Scholarship Class Program at SMAN 1 Pemali. Since its inception in 2000, this program has produced 886 alumni.

PT Timah also supports educational infrastructure, assisting with such things as laptops, school desks, and other learning facilities. The company backs both formal and informal education, including support for Quranic schools (TPA), Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), and others.

To enhance education quality, PT Timah has introduced the Gernas Tastaka program and provides training for teachers within its operational areas to strengthen their capabilities in supporting the education sector.

Health Sector

To improve public health in mining communities, PT Timah launched the Mobile Health Service (Mobil Sehat) in 2020, which has served tens of thousands of residents. In 2024 alone, it served 5,727 residents in the Bangka Belitung and Riau Islands provinces.

As a member of the MIND ID mining industry holding, PT Timah also provides medical cost assistance and supports health infrastructure, including ambulances, to ease community access to healthcare.

The company also runs the "Kemunting" (Community Stunting Reduction Initiative) program, which educates communities on balanced nutrition and provides supplementary food to combat and prevent stunting.

Economic Empowerment & MSME Support

PT Timah supports the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through skills training, capital support, and business mentoring. This aims to enhance the competitiveness and independence of local entrepreneurs.

Since its launch in 2000, the PUMK (Micro and Small Business Funding Program) has supported over 9,000 MSMEs. In 2024, PT Timah disbursed IDR 10 billion in capital assistance for MSMEs.

Improving Community Welfare

The company also focuses on enhancing community well-being by supporting infrastructure development. In 2024, PT Timah provided 94 infrastructure assistance programs, including support for sports facilities, schools, fishermen, public amenities, sanitation, houses of worship, and uninhabitable housing (RTLH).

Improved infrastructure helps boost the economy by enhancing national competitiveness and inter-regional connectivity and reducing isolation, thereby improving people’s quality of life.
