Through CSR Program, PT Timah Encourages Pangkalpinang Youth to Turn Waste into Valuable Products

PANGKALPINANG -- As part of its commitment to promoting environmental sustainability and empowering the younger generation, PT Timah Tbk provided support to the Kreasi Pemuda Pangkalpinang Community to improve facilities and infrastructure.

The Kreasi Pemuda Pangkalpinang Community is a group that recycles waste into environmentally friendly products with economic value. This aligns with PT Timah’s efforts to implement sustainable environmental management.

The assistance, which is part of the company’s CSR program, was provided in the form of support for the construction of facilities and infrastructure, including the establishment of a production hut that will serve as a center for processing and storing recycled products.

Through this program, PT Timah, a member of the Mining Industry Holding MIND ID, is not only providing initial capital but also encouraging the long-term independence of the community.

The Chairman of the Kreasi Pemuda Pangkalpinang Community and Founder of Pondok Kreasi, Zulharansyah, expressed his appreciation for PT Timah’s support. He emphasized that the production hut is essential for increasing production capacity while also reducing waste in the surrounding environment.

“This assistance focuses on facilities and infrastructure, one of which is the construction of a production hut. Its presence has a significant impact on reducing waste through education at the recycle waste bank,” explained Zulharansyah.

The recycled products produced by the community include paving blocks. In the past, consumer orders were delayed due to limited production facilities. With support from PT Timah, the community hopes to begin mass production soon and expand its product variety.

In addition to production, the community is also actively engaged in waste management education for schools, the public, and companies. According to Zulharansyah, this educational program is vital for raising awareness about waste management from an early age.

“We regularly provide education to high schools and the community. Our hope is that this collaboration with PT Timah will continue, not only as a one-time assistance but also as an ongoing partnership, such as managing waste banks and providing education for PT Timah employees,” he added.

PT Timah Tbk’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, said that PT Timah remains committed to building synergy with communities, particularly in the areas of environmental and community empowerment.

“This support is one form of the Company’s commitment to preserving the environment while also strengthening the role of youth in driving the creative economy based on recycling,” Anggi concluded. (*)
