EAST BELITUNG - Breeding sambar deer at the Iron Stone Primary Mine managed by PT Timah Tbk in East Belitung Regency continues to show positive results. This is because the population of the Unicolor Deer continues to grow.
A male sambar deer was born on Monday (08/05/2023), this is the 3rd child born since the sambar deer was in captivity and managed by PT Timah Tbk.
One of the workers of the Sambar deer captivity, Ruslan said, since the Sambar deer arrived in captivity on March 1 2022 until now the breeding and maintenance of the Sambar deer is going well.
Among other things, they regulate their diet and always pay attention to the condition of the deer, so that they continue to show good breeding.
"Until now there have been no significant obstacles because we are here with supervision from PT Timah Tbk in collaboration with veterinarians and the South Sumatra BKDSA," said Ruslan.
According to Ruslan, the success of raising sambar deer is inseparable from attention, especially in providing adequate food, cleaning the cages, and caring for and approaching the deer so that the deer are docile and not wild.
Moreover, in 2023, two fawns were born, namely last February.
"Yesterday, the third fawn was born yesterday, and the birth process of this fawn naturally on Monday around 11:30 WIB during the day was safe," he explained.
Ruslan is grateful that the newly born sambar calves are in good health and are still under their supervision.
In a short while, he said, a sambar deer calf will be born again, because at this time there are already pregnant deer and there are signs that they are about to give birth in PT Timah Tbk's Batu Besi TB breeding cage in East Damar Belitung District.
