The Indonesian National Commission for Disabilities Appreciates PT Timah Tbk Employing Persons with Disabilities

PANGKALPINANG -- PT Timah Tbk received a visit from the National Commission on Disabilities (KND) of the Republic of Indonesia which at the same time socialized about mainstreaming disabilities.

The presence of the Chairman of KND RI, Dante Rigmalia, and her team was welcomed by the Director of Finance and Risk Management of PT Timah Tbk Fina Eliani in the Main Meeting Room of PT Timah Tbk, Tuesday (23/5/2023).

The Director of Finance and Risk Management of PT Timah Tbk, Fina Eliani said that PT Timah Tbk had employed 20 people with disabilities within PT Timah Tbk.

"As a state-owned company, PT Timah Tbk is not only profit-oriented but also has a labor-intensive task, namely absorbing jobs that are also not limited to persons with disabilities. Currently, there are 20 workers at PT Timah Tbk who are persons with disabilities," said Fina.

PT Timah Tbk said he also actively supports YPAC Pangkalpinang to facilitate education for persons with disabilities to gain access to education.

KND RI Chairman Dante Rigmalia said KND has a duty to carry out evaluation monitoring and advocacy for persons with disabilities within the Government, Agencies, and companies.

According to Dante, her party continues to provide advocacy so that the rights of persons with disabilities can be fulfilled in various aspects. According to her, currently, there are many people with disabilities who have not fully received their rights.

She conveyed that there were six strategic issues that were echoed by KND to be supported by all parties including PT Timah Tbk, namely; stigma elimination, data collection, health, education, employment, and social welfare for persons with disabilities.

"The state is present but not yet fully, but we believe we are supported by good people. In terms of education, only 30 percent of persons with disabilities graduate from elementary school, 11 percent from junior high school and 14 percent from high school, and less than 5 percent graduate from university. This is what makes it difficult for persons with disabilities to get access to jobs," she said.

She appreciates PT Timah Tbk for employing people with disabilities and providing equal opportunities in career paths.

"PT Timah Tbk has provided opportunities for people with disabilities to work and we appreciate this. Hopefully, later the number will increase and can create an inclusive climate in the company. Because workers with disabilities also have the same rights to get a job, get equal pay, and develop opportunities for career paths," she said.

She also appreciated the commitment of PT Timah Tbk which has supported education for disabilities through YPAC Pangkalpinang.

"This is part of good practice in supporting efforts to fulfill the rights of persons with disabilities and we really appreciate this for providing support for persons with disabilities in the field of education," she said.
