BANGKA BELITUNG – The Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia, through the Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence (Jamintel), has granted Strategic Development Security Approval (PPS) to PT Timah Tbk.
This approval was personally handed over by the Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Reda Manthovani, S.H., LLM, to the President Director of PT Timah, Ahmad Dani Virsal, during the 'Signing of the Joint Agreement Document (NKB) Between PT Timah Tbk and BUMDes/Cooperatives, as well as the Preliminary Meeting (Entry Meeting) and Signing of the Integrity Pact for Strategic Project/Activity Security in Offshore Mining within PT Timah Tbk's Mining Business License (IUP)' held at Graha Timah, Pangkalpinang, on Thursday (March 20, 2025).
At the event, the Acting Director IV of the Attorney General’s Office, Irene Putrie, S.H., M. Hum, also handed over the Strategic Development Security Order to the Head of the High Prosecutor’s Office of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, M. Teguh Darmawan.
Three strategic projects of PT Timah will receive security oversight from the Attorney General’s Office Offshore Mining Project within PT Timah Tbk’s IUP in Olivier Waters, Belitung, Offshore Mining Project within PT Timah Tbk’s IUP in Beriga Waters, Central Bangka, and Revitalization Project of the Existing Rare Earth Metals Mineral Pilot Plant in Tanjung Ular.
Additionally, the Attorney General’s Office is also providing guidance on PT Timah Tbk's mining partnership program with BUMDes/Cooperatives. The Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence, Prof. Dr. Reda Manthovani, S.H., LLM, directly witnessed the signing of the Joint Agreement Document (NKB) between PT Timah Tbk and BUMDes/Cooperatives.
Reda Manthovani stated that the Attorney General’s Office's intelligence division strongly supports improving tin governance through strategic security measures. He emphasized that achieving optimal results requires the support of all stakeholders.
“In carrying out strategic development security efforts, last year we mapped out potential threats, disturbances, obstacles, and challenges that could hinder governance improvements,” he explained.
To enhance in governance, the Attorney General’s Office, through Directorate IV, actively coordinates and advocates for regulatory frameworks, including opportunities for community involvement in mining management.
“We oversee PT Timah's strategic projects so that the company can proceed confidently without hesitation. Governance improvements are not solely the responsibility of the Attorney General’s Office; we merely facilitate so that PT Timah can move forward with certainty,” he added.
The mining sector plays a crucial role in the economy, particularly in mining, which directly impacts local communities and is part of the government’s priority programs.
“However, we acknowledge that in governance faces various challenges, including illegal mining practices and environmental degradation,” he remarked.
For this reason, the Attorney General’s Office has been coordinating and collaborating with various parties, such as the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), PT Timah, and provincial and local governments, to ensure mining activities comply with applicable laws and regulations.
Meanwhile, the President Director of PT Timah, Ahmad Dani Virsal, expressed his appreciation for the support and role of the Attorney General’s Office in assisting PT Timah’s business processes, including granting strategic development security approval for its projects.
“Thank you to the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Indonesia and its ranks for issuing the strategic development security order for PT Timah, allowing us to continue improving our performance within the framework of regulations and policies,” said Dani.
Dani added that the entry meeting event is part of PT Timah’s ongoing governance improvement efforts, accompanied by the Attorney General’s Office. This follows PT Timah’s request for guidance and collaborative discussions with all relevant stakeholders regarding governance reforms.
“PT Timah continues to improve corporate governance by implementing the principles of Good Corporate Governance,” he stated.
According to him, PT Timah constantly faces various challenges in its business operations, making it necessary to take preventive measures, including securing strategic projects.
He further noted that under Presidential Regulation No. 12 of 2025 concerning the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJM), tin is designated as one of the priority downstream commodities, particularly in tin downstream development.
“With the support and guidance from the Attorney General’s Office for these strategic projects, we hope to address existing challenges so that PT Timah can carry out its operations effectively and maximize its contributions to the state and society,” he concluded.
Acting Governor of Bangka Belitung, Sugito stated that the province's economy still heavily relies on the tin mining sector, making its responsible management crucial.
“I appreciate the Attorney General’s Office for thoroughly examining the root causes of tin governance issues and finding common ground to address them. This is a tangible effort to create harmony between economic development, environmental conservation, and community welfare,” he said.
The event was also attended by regional leaders from across the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, heads of district attorney offices within the Bangka Belitung High Prosecutor’s jurisdiction, Chairman of the Indonesian Tin Exporters Association Harwendro, the Strategic Development Security Team, PT Timah Tbk’s Board of Directors and management, as well as BUMDes and Cooperative representatives.
