BANGKA - To support social protection programs for fishermen groups, PT Timah Tbk provides social security BPJS Employment for fishermen in the company's operational areas.
Social security is carried out by PT Timah Tbk by involving fishermen groups in the BPJS Employment program. This program turned out to provide great benefits for fishermen groups.
One of the fishermen who received BPJS Employment benefits from PT Timah Tbk, Juliardi, who is also the chairman of the Joint Business Group (KUB) Fishermen Bina Sejahtera Bersama in Air Antu Hamlet, Deniang Village, Riau Silip District, Bangka Regency, said many of the benefits were felt by its members.
He said that by becoming participants of the Employment BPJS facilitated by PT Timah Tbk, they felt they were getting social protection when they went to sea.
"We are very grateful to be given facilities by PT Timah in the form of Employment BPJS. We feel very cared for by PT Timah. Because even though we only work as fishermen, the presence of BPJS at least makes us feel protected in carrying out fishing activities," he said.
He said, around 80 percent of their residents who are dominated by fishermen participate in the BPJS Employment program facilitated by PT Timah Tbk.
“A program like this is something we are really looking forward to. Because all this time if something untoward happens while working, we make voluntary donations, to help our colleagues who are stricken by the disaster. What is called a voluntary contribution, yes, the funds are limited," he said.
Furthermore, he conveyed that the existence of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan provides social protection for them. So they can move in peace.
“This program is an umbrella for us to protect us if unwanted things happen. Apart from that, it also makes friends more relieved when doing activities. Don't worry anymore if something happens," said the man who is familiarly called Ali.
Not only that, he really appreciates the program from PT Timah Tbk. According to him, a program like this is right on target.
"We really appreciate the programs provided by PT Timah for fishermen. Starting from FAD assistance, outboard engines, BPJS facilities and others," he said.
Meanwhile, Sen Hiung (43) or usually called Ahyung, who is a member of KUB Bina Sejahtera Bersama, is also grateful and feels protected by this program.
"I have been at sea for more than 19 years, I have been doing this activity since I was young. We are very grateful for the Employment BPJS provided by PT Timah to us. And of course with this BPJS we really feel helped and feel protected," he said.
He hopes that PT Timah Tbk can continue to support the independence of fishermen, so that it can improve the economy of fishing communities.
"Hopefully PT Timah will continue to help small fishermen like us, such as fishing gear or other facilities and infrastructure that can boost the income of small fishermen here," said Ahyung. (*)
