Tens of Thousands of People Visit the Pangkalpinang Indonesian Tin Museum, an Educational Tourist Destination That Has Charming Charm

PANGKALPINANG -- The Pangkalpinang Indonesian Tin Museum (MTI), which is located on Jalan Jenderal Ahmad Yani, Pangkalpinang City, has various collections of historical relics, especially the history of tin mining.

The charm of the Indonesian Tin Museum (MTI) Pangkalpinang, which is managed by PT Timah, never gets old. Various collections about tin mining in Indonesia and Bangka Belitung add insight for visitors.

The Indonesian Tin Museum was founded in 1958 with the aim of recording the history of tin in Bangka Belitung and introducing it to the wider public.

MTI Pangkalpinang is not only full of history, but the building is an old building built since the Dutch era.

Apart from being a tin information center, the Indonesian Tin Museum is also used as educational recreation and is one of the cultural heritage sites of Pangkalpinang City.

The Indonesian Tin Museum has various interesting collections, such as miniature tin mining ships, tin mining equipment, Dutch mining drills, classic locomotives, dioramas, reliefs from the history of tin mining and others.

It is not surprising that the Indonesian Tin Museum (MTI) Pangkalpinang is always busy with tourists, students and the general public. Medio January-June 2024 MTI Pangkalpinang was visited by 13,883 people.

"Visits are dominated by students who want to know about the history of tin, there are also domestic tourists and foreign tourists," said Chairman of MTI Pangkalpinang, Taufik.

In one day the Indonesian Tin Museum can be visited by hundreds of people, just for recreation or to see the various collections the museum has.

One of the visitors to MTI Pangkalpinang, Putri, said that she often visits MTI Pangkalpinang with her children. Apart from the comfortable place, the collections available are also large.

"I regularly take my children to the museum because this also introduces them to Bangka Belitung. The place is comfortable, it's free too. In fact, once a month I definitely take my children here to introduce them to the collections here," said the mother of two children.

For Putri, taking her children to the museum is part of learning about their birth province, their children can also play and see the existing collections firsthand.

"Because the children are still small and haven't gone to school yet, I don't introduce them all. But one by one, for example, today I showed them and explained about the dredger. The children are called, so at most, they lasted 10 minutes and then they ran to look at the sand. 3D," he said.

For him, the Timah Indonesia museum is an educational place to invite children to play while learning. Apart from that, the shady atmosphere makes them not only feel at home in the museum but also outside the museum. (*)
