Synergy Between Education and Industry: UBB Students Learn Financial Management at PT Timah Tbk

PANGKALPINANG -- As part of its commitment to supporting the education sector, PT Timah Tbk welcomed a visiting lecture class from the Faculty of Economics and Business at Bangka Belitung University (UBB) on Friday, October 3, 2025, held in the company’s Main Meeting Room.

The visiting lecture was attended by dozens of students accompanied by their academic supervisors, Dr. Ari Agung Nugroho, S.E., MBA, and Willa Fatika Sari, S.E., M.M., and was welcomed by PT Timah Tbk’s Division Head of Human Capital, Jezen Zainal Arifin.

This activity served as a platform for sharing knowledge and real-world experience between industry professionals and students. PT Timah’s Division Head of Financial Accounting, Dian Syafitri, and Division Head of Corporate Finance, Oktaviani, acted as speakers, sharing insights into the company’s financial management practices.

The students showed high enthusiasm throughout the session, as they were introduced to the practical aspects of corporate finance management an experience that offered valuable real-world exposure.

Dr. Ari Agung Nugroho, one of the academic supervisors, noted that PT Timah has significantly contributed to the education sector, particularly in supporting UBB through infrastructure development.

He expressed appreciation for PT Timah’s initiative to provide students with the opportunity to directly learn about corporate financial management and the implementation of Good Corporate Governance (GCG).

“The students are very eager to learn about finance, especially how it is managed within a corporation like PT Timah. PT Timah also plays a major role in supporting UBB, and recently the company has shown positive sentiment, including rising stock performance,” he said.

He added that this hands-on learning experience provides unique insights that students can’t get from the classroom alone, and encouraged them to make the most of this opportunity.

“Take this chance to gain practical knowledge and learn about GCG implementation from a mining company. PT Timah operates in a complex environment, and learning about their strategies is a valuable experience,” he added.

Tasya, a fifth-semester Management student, shared that she gained new knowledge that had not yet been covered in her classes.

“It was exciting and very useful. Some of the material presented was new to us and hadn’t been covered in our lectures. It’s truly different and motivates us to study harder,” she said.

Similarly, Trisa, a third-semester student, said that learning directly from industry practitioners not only gave her hands-on experience but also helped her better decide whether to focus on finance or accounting.

“When our lecturer said we’d be learning directly from the practitioners at PT Timah, I was so excited. This really added to my experience and helped a lot, especially since I’ve been unsure whether to concentrate on finance or accounting it gave me a broader picture,” she explained.

PT Timah has frequently opened its doors to students to observe and learn about its business operations firsthand. This initiative reflects the company’s ongoing synergy with educational institutions, aligned with its vision to contribute to the development of human resources in its operational areas.
