Sustainable Environmental Management, PT Timah’s Engineering & Operation Excellence Division Launches Community Clean-Up and Provides Environmental Support
BANGKA -- PT Timah Tbk continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to environmental management through various initiatives involving active community participation. One such effort was carried out by PT Timah’s Engineering & Operation Excellence Division, which organized a community clean-up and provided several forms of environmental assistance.
The event, titled HARI-CERDAS — short for Helipad, Asri, Rapi dan Indah - Cerminan Edukasi Ramah Lingkungan dan Dedikasi untuk Alam yang Sehat (Helipad, Green, Tidy, and Beautiful - A Reflection of Eco-Friendly Education and Dedication to a Healthy Environment) — brought together employees of the Engineering & Operation Excellence Division, the Bangka Regency Government, and local residents in a clean-up effort at the Helipad Balai Karya area, Air Kantung Subdistrict, Sungailiat District, Bangka Regency on Thursday (July 3, 2025).

This initiative is a collaboration between PT Timah Tbk, the Bangka Regency Environmental Agency, the Air Kantung community in Sungailiat, and the Indonesian Renewable Energy Society (METI), aimed at developing economic and renewable energy potential, as well as creating green open spaces in the area.
In addition to the clean-up, the Engineering & Operation Excellence Division also provided support to the Bangka Regency Environmental Agency, including waste containers, plant seeds for the Nangnung Village Farmers Group, wood material to be processed into biomass by METI, fruit tree saplings for the KSM Resam compost house, and trash bins for SDN 1 Pemali, an Adiwiyata-designated school. The event also marked the launch of PT Timah Balai Karya’s first biomass production shipment for METI.

Also held during the event was the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoU): one between PT Timah’s Engineering & Operation Excellence Division and the Bangka Regency Environmental Agency to plant Angsana trees in support of energy resilience and greenhouse gas emission reduction in the Balai Karya Industrial Area; another MoU between PT Timah’s division and METI; and a third between the division and the Nangnung Village Farmers Group in Sungailiat.
Head of the Bangka Regency Environmental Agency, Ismir Rachmaddinianto, stated that the initiative reflects PT Timah’s real collaboration in implementing sustainable environmental management.
According to Ismir, waste remains a serious issue in Bangka Regency, with many residents still lacking awareness about proper waste management.
He also expressed appreciation for PT Timah’s assistance to the Nangnung Farmers Group, KSM Resam, and SDN 1 Pemali in improving their environmental management facilities and infrastructure.
"The synergy and collaboration between PT Timah and the Bangka Regency Government, especially the Environmental Agency, have been going well. Various environmental management activities have been carried out together, not just today but also in previous efforts like fish aggregating device (FAD) deployments, beach cleanups, and more. Hopefully, this collaboration will continue," he said.
Similarly, Widi Pancono, Chairperson III of METI, stated that the series of activities carried out that day was part of PT Timah’s ESG implementation, supporting various sectors such as food security, energy, and environmental management.
"Previously, METI and PT Timah established an energy garden by planting Angsana trees. Today’s activities continue the previous initiatives, where PT Timah delivered wood materials from land development efforts that will be processed into biomass to support new and renewable energy," he said.
On this occasion, METI also handed over Angsana saplings to be used for replanting areas where land clearing had occurred.
Meanwhile, PT Timah's Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, said that PT Timah continuously implements sustainable and integrated environmental management in its operational areas.
"PT Timah applies sustainable and integrated environmental management across various sectors to deliver not only ecological but also economic benefits to surrounding communities. This is being carried out today by the Engineering & Operation Excellence Division. Hopefully, this synergy and collaboration will continue and bring even greater benefits to the community," said Anggi.
