SOUTH BANGKA -- Suripa (73) was unable to hold back her emotion when her old house was rebuilt by PT Timah Tbk through the Livable Homes (RTLH) program. Residents of Jl. Yos Sudarso, RT. 06 RW.03, Tanjung Ketapang Village, Toboali District, South Bangka Regency is relieved because her house has been repaired.
Suripa is no longer worried about her house which is about to collapse. Now, she can enjoy the days with her children and grandchildren in a house that has been renovated by PT Timah Tbk.
For her, this is like a dream, because her dream of building the house was realized by members of the Indonesian MIND ID Mining Holding.
The woman who is often called Granny Suripa has never even thought about asking PT Timah for help renovating her house.
“We have been living in this house for more than 50 years, the plans to renovate this house have taken a long time, but we don't have the money to build it. I didn't think that anyone could help build this house at all. I also did not expect PT Timah to help me," she said.
She wants to renovate her house because the old building is in disrepair, and the wood and walls are brittle with age. Not infrequently, when the weather is bad they are very worried about being hit by the wooden supports of the house.
“My house used to have plank walls and the wood was rickety. Likewise, the roof has all leaked. When it rains almost all parts of the house get water in, sometimes we use a bucket to collect the rainwater," she said.
She continued, they had even fled to other people's houses during strong winds, for fear that their houses would collapse. Moreover, the condition of the house is close to the beach.
"There was an incident when there were high waves, we fled the house. At that time my late husband was sick, she was carried out of the house. It happened around 3 in the morning. Because we are afraid that the house will collapse,“ she explained.
She was grateful to be able to get help renovating a house from PT Timah Tbk, something unexpected. Until now, she can be relieved because she is no longer worried that his house will collapse.
"People have surveyed it several times, but it's only been surveyed and there's been no realization. Thank God, PT Timah helped us with construction costs for the construction of this house," said Suripa.
