BELITUNG -- To support the community's religious activities, PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting religious facilities by providing assistance to Nurul Fatah Mosque in Tanjung Subdistrict, Tanjungpandan District, Belitung Regency.
The assistance was used to purchase new carpets for the mosque, which serves not only as a place of worship but also as a center for religious activities for the surrounding community.
The Chairman of Nurul Fatah Mosque and Chairman of the Nurul Fatah Foundation said that the mosque was established in 2017. As activities and the needs of worshippers have increased, the mosque management has continued to improve its facilities and provide greater comfort for the congregation.
One of the main concerns was the condition of the mosque's carpets, which had become damaged and were no longer suitable for use.
"The old carpets were already damaged and no longer suitable for use. We also used the assistance from PT TIMAH to improve and renovate the terrace flooring so that it is more level and comfortable for worshippers," he said on Monday (August 10, 2026).
According to him, improving the mosque's facilities is important because the congregation includes not only young people but also many older adults. The previously uneven and less accessible flooring raised concerns that worshippers, particularly the elderly, could slip and fall.
"Especially for older worshippers, we want to provide comfort and safety when they come to worship. That is why we also made improvements to the mosque's terrace," he said.
He expressed his gratitude for the assistance provided by PT TIMAH. The support has been very helpful in meeting the mosque's facility needs, which have been difficult to fulfill solely through donations from worshippers.
"We are grateful to have received this assistance. The congregation is also happy because we now have new carpets. Alhamdulillah, thanks to PT TIMAH's support," he said.
With limited financial resources, the mosque management had faced difficulties in improving its facilities. The assistance from PT TIMAH has therefore enabled them to make additional improvements to the mosque.
"This is the first time we have received assistance from PT TIMAH. We hope that our relationship and this kind of support will continue to improve and run smoothly in the future, so that it can help other houses of worship in need," he said.
More than just a place of worship, Nurul Fatah Mosque also serves as a community space for educational and religious activities.
The mosque regularly hosts Taman Pendidikan Al-Qur'an (TPA), an Islamic Qur'an education program for children. In addition, it also hosts majelis taklim, or Islamic study sessions for women.
"Children in the TPA usually study on Mondays and Thursdays at around 2:00 p.m. Then, on Fridays and Saturdays, there are Islamic study sessions for women. So, this mosque is not only a place of worship but also a place for the community to learn and take part in various activities," he said.
He hopes that support for houses of worship will continue so that the community can feel increasingly comfortable carrying out their religious activities.
For the management and congregation of Nurul Fatah Mosque, the assistance is more than just the provision of new carpets. It is part of a shared effort to create a more comfortable and safer place of worship that can continue to serve people of all ages. (*)
