PANGKALPINANG -- Equality for people with disabilities is a shared responsibility. As part of its commitment to improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities and their families, PT Timah organized a special training program for parents of children with disabilities.
Through an event titled the Disability Seminar: "Supporting the Success of Children with Special Needs," PT Timah, in collaboration with Rumah Konsultan Indira, empowered parents by providing them with the skills and knowledge needed to support the development of their children with disabilities.
The PT Timah Disability Seminar was held in Bangka Regency and Central Bangka Regency, with 170 parents of children with disabilities participating on June 25–26, 2025.
The seminar was warmly received by the participants, who attentively listened to presentations by speakers Iin Indriyani and Dr. Rahmadi Iwan Guntoro, Sp.P. A consultation session was also provided during the event.
In organizing this activity, PT Timah also collaborated with the Bangka Belitung Islands Provincial Education Department, the Bangka Regency Government, and the Central Bangka Regency Government.
Acting Head of the Bangka Belitung Education Department, Darlan, appreciated PT Timah’s support for education, including for people with disabilities. He noted that this parenting seminar helps improve parents' understanding in supporting children with disabilities.
He also encouraged parents to take advantage of this opportunity to gain valuable knowledge, so they can more effectively support and explore their children’s potential.
"PT Timah is a pioneer in initiatives like this, which are essential to help parents understand the right way to educate children with special needs. We have seven special needs schools (SLB), and I hope this program continues in more schools so more people can be educated. This is the kind of CSR program that shows genuine concern for people with disabilities and supports them in becoming valuable members of society," he said.
Speaker Iin Indriyani said the event represented a concrete step by the company in supporting children with disabilities. She emphasized the importance of such programs, especially as the number of children with disabilities continues to increase.
"The number of children with disabilities keeps growing, and we cannot deny that many still look down on them. But they also have potential, and it’s important that we learn how to nurture, support, and understand their development so they can achieve success both in this world and the hereafter," she said.
She appreciated PT Timah’s role in helping improve the quality of human resources, particularly for people with disabilities. She hopes the program will continue in the future.
"We also provided a consultation session for parents, and we hope it helps them support one another. In the future, I also hope PT Timah can go beyond seminars and help build a therapy center for people with disabilities," she added.
One parent attending the event, Aswati, expressed her gratitude and joy, saying she gained valuable new knowledge that she could apply in supporting her child.
"Raising and educating a child with special needs is not easy—there are many challenges. Until now, we’ve only learned from their teachers. But now, thank God, I’ve received direct knowledge, and it’s been really helpful," she said.
This educational program for parents and teachers of children with disabilities has been carried out by PT Timah since last year. It is part of the company’s efforts to improve human resource quality and promote equality for people with disabilities.
