BELITUNG -- PT Timah Tbk remains committed to supporting the agricultural sector and food security in the company's operational areas. One of the efforts made is to improve the facilities and infrastructure of farmer groups.
Through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, PT Timah handed over corn husking machines to the Bina Tani Farmers' Group in Gantung Sub-district, East Belitung District.
The chairman of the Bina Tani Farmers' Group, Dedi Junaidi, a farmer from Ganse Village, Gantung Sub-district, East Belitung, expressed his gratitude for the corn husking machine. He stated that the machine significantly assists farmers in husking corn more easily and quickly.
“This machine is very beneficial for farmers because it can separate corn kernels from the cobs more easily and quickly, especially since the machine has been designed to improve the quality of shelled corn,” he explained during the handover ceremony at the 49th Anniversary Health Week of PT Timah in late July.
He commended PT Timah for providing the Bina Tani Farmers’ Group with a corn husking machine as a gesture of the company’s concern for supporting their work.
“This assistance is exactly what we had hoped for to simplify our work. Thank you, PT Timah, for always caring; we truly feel assisted because this machine is exactly what we had hoped for,” he said.
According to Dedi, this machine is a piece of history for their group, because it is the only corn shelling machine in East Belitung.
“We feel honored because, according to historical records in East Belitung, this is the first time that a district in East Belitung has received a corn shelling machine,” he said.
Dedi hopes that in the future, PT Timah can participate during the harvest, so they can be involved in separating the corn kernels from the cobs and continue to support their group.
“Once again, we express our gratitude to PT Timah, the Regent of East Belitung, and his team. I am proud to be a farmer. We have already received the machine, so we hope that during the harvest, PT Timah can join us in the harvest and try using the corn husking machine together with the farmers in East Belitung, especially those in the Bina Tani Farmers’ Group,” he said.
