BANGKA – PT Timah Tbk remains committed to environmental preservation. As a member of MIND ID's Mining Industry Holding, the company continues to collaborate with various stakeholders to implement concrete steps for environmental conservation.
In its efforts, PT Timah actively involves students and community groups. One such initiative is supporting the Adiwiyata School Program by planting thousands of mangrove trees in Bangka Regency.
This time, the Adiwiyata School Program involved students from several schools in Bangka Regency. Together with these students, PT Timah planted 3,000 mangrove saplings along the coastal area of Takari Beach, Bangka Regency.
The planting of these 3,000 mangrove saplings was carried out in stages. Initially, 1,000 saplings were planted by students from SMAN 1 Sungailiat. In the second phase, 1,000 more saplings were planted in collaboration with TVRI. The final stage of the planting program culminated today, Thursday (12/12/2024).
Program Coordinator Heti Rukmana expressed her gratitude and appreciation for PT Timah Tbk's support in planting mangroves at Takari Beach.
"We are grateful and deeply appreciate PT Timah Tbk for their full support and concern for the environment," she said.
Today's planting event included students from SDN 24 Sungailiat, SDN 17 Sungailiat, and SDN 22 Sungailiat.
Heti further explained that as a nationally recognized Adiwiyata school, SDN 24 Sungailiat seeks to make a tangible contribution to environmental preservation beyond the school grounds.
"We do not limit our Adiwiyata programs to the school environment. We also aim to make an impact on external areas by routinely planting productive trees and cleaning the environment," she said.
PT Timah Tbk's support for the 3,000-mangrove planting initiative reflects its commitment to environmental conservation and educating students about ecosystem preservation.
Agustin Amelia, Head of Environmental Capacity Development at the Bangka Regency Environmental Agency, emphasized the importance of mangroves for protecting coastal areas from abrasion.
"Given the current climate and weather conditions, mangroves are an ideal choice to prevent coastal erosion. Additionally, mangroves contribute to greening coastal ecosystems," she said.
PT Timah's Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, highlighted the company's consistent efforts in mangrove planting across its operational areas.
"The mangrove planting initiative with students aims to educate them about environmental management from an early age while reaffirming the company's commitment to environmental stewardship," she explained.
Mangrove ecosystems play a critical role in protecting coastal areas. Anggi expressed hope that the planted mangroves would thrive and deliver both environmental and economic benefits to local communities. (*)
