Supporting Marine Resource Sustainability, PT TIMAH Has Restocked Thousands of Mangrove Crabs in Karimun

KARIMUN -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk continues to promote the preservation of coastal ecosystems through its sustainable environmental management programs. One of these initiatives is its marine reclamation program, which includes the restocking of mangrove crabs in Karimun Regency, Riau Islands Province.

The mangrove crab restocking program is aimed at restoring the balance of the mangrove ecosystem while supporting the sustainability of fisheries resources and creating economic benefits for local coastal communities.

From 2017 to 2025, PT TIMAH has released a total of 5,600 mangrove crabs into several coastal areas across Karimun. The program has been carried out in phases at carefully selected locations that provide suitable habitats for the growth and survival of mangrove crabs in the wild.

Mangrove crabs play a vital role in maintaining the balance of coastal ecosystems. Their presence serves as an indicator of environmental health, and they also represent a valuable economic resource for coastal communities.

Through this restocking initiative, the Company seeks to increase mangrove crab populations in their natural habitats, generating ecological benefits while supporting the livelihoods of fishermen who depend on marine resources.

PT TIMAH's Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, said that the Company's marine reclamation efforts focus not only on restoring environmental quality but also on creating long-term benefits for coastal communities.

"Our marine reclamation program is part of our commitment to maintaining ecosystem balance while supporting the sustainability of fisheries resources. Restocking mangrove crabs is one of our concrete efforts to strengthen coastal marine populations so that both the environment and local communities can benefit from healthier ecosystems," he said.

He added that, in addition to mangrove crab restocking, PT TIMAH consistently implements various marine ecosystem rehabilitation programs throughout its operational areas.

"Programs such as mangrove planting and the installation of artificial reefs are part of our integrated environmental management approach. We hope these initiatives will contribute to healthier marine ecosystems, preserve biodiversity, and enhance the productivity of our coastal waters," he added.

In addition to restocking mangrove crabs, PT TIMAH also carries out squid restocking programs on Bangka Island, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, as part of its efforts to increase squid populations in their natural habitat. (*)
