Supporting Food Security, PT Timah Provides Assistance for Layer Chicken Farming in West Bangka

WEST BANGKA – PT Timah remains committed to supporting food security in its operational areas by assisting community groups in layer chicken farming.

Through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Environmental and Social Responsibility (TJSL) program, PT Timah provided aid to the Sumber Rezeki Farmers Group in Perumnas Hamlet, Sekar Biru Village, Parit Tiga District, West Bangka Regency, on Thursday (January 16, 2025).

The assistance will be used as business capital and to develop layer chicken farming. It is hoped that this support will act as a stimulus to boost the economic growth of communities around the mining area.

M. Noerhisyam, the Sumber Rezeki Farmers Group Chairman, explained that PT Timah's assistance would be allocated for purchasing chicks, feed, chicken coops, and operational costs.

“We are very grateful and appreciative that our group received assistance from PT Timah. The aid we received has been utilized according to the needs of layer chicken farming, including building coops, buying chicks, and purchasing feed,” said Noer.

He added that this is the first assistance PT Timah has provided to the Sumber Rezeki Farmers Group, and he hopes for continuous support in the future.

“Layer chicken farming is not without its challenges. After receiving advice and training from Rahmat Kadarta, who is experienced in livestock farming, we are ready to manage this venture. With PT Timah's support, we hope it will positively impact the local economy.”

Despite challenges, including the rainy season, which poses risks for young chicks in cold weather, the group is determined to overcome obstacles and advance their farming efforts.

“There are always challenges in any endeavor. The rainy season makes it more difficult for young chicks to survive the cold. However, we are determined to keep striving to improve this layer of chicken farming business as a livelihood and to enhance our families' economies,” Noer added.

He expressed his gratitude to PT Timah for supporting their food security program through layer chicken farming.

“We are incredibly thankful to PT Timah for providing CSR support for our food security program. This truly helps us build a better future,” he said.

Meanwhile, Munarfarzah, Head of Sekar Biru Village in Parit Tiga District, appreciated PT Timah's CSR support for the residents of Sekar Biru, aligning with the village's programs and Indonesia's Presidential directive for food security initiatives.

Munar noted that the assistance provided value to the village by positively impacting the residents’ economy.

“I thank PT Timah, through its CSR program, for supporting our residents in developing this group venture. May this assistance motivate them to continue enthusiastically in layer chicken farming,” he concluded. (*)
