Supporting Fishermen’s Safety, PT TIMAH Tbk Distributes Dozens of Life Jackets in Karimun

KARIMUN -- PT TIMAH Tbk has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting the safety and welfare of coastal communities, particularly fishermen. Through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) Program, the company distributed life jacket assistance to fishing groups in Karimun Regency, Riau Islands Province.

In collaboration with the Regional Marine and Fisheries Office of the Riau Islands Province in Karimun, PT TIMAH Tbk provided 80 life jackets that will be distributed to fishermen in several areas of Karimun, including Kundur Barat, Ranggam, and Leho.

The life jacket assistance is expected to enhance fishermen's safety while they carry out fishing activities at sea.

Yova Apriazir, Head of the Regional Marine and Fisheries Office in Karimun, stated that many traditional fishermen in Karimun still lack adequate safety equipment, including life jackets.

“Many of our fishermen do not have life jackets because they are quite expensive, reaching up to Rp300,000 per unit. That’s why, together with PT TIMAH Tbk, we’re providing these life jackets as essential safety equipment that every fisherman should have,” he said.

He explained that the life jackets will be distributed to traditional fishermen, emphasizing that wearing them can be crucial in emergency situations.

“Life jackets are vital for saving lives when accidents happen at sea. With a life jacket, fishermen can survive for at least the first two hours while waiting for help. This is extremely important for their safety,” Yova added.

He expressed appreciation for PT TIMAH Tbk’s ongoing commitment to supporting fishermen. Moving forward, he hopes this collaboration will continue, not only to provide safety equipment but also fishing gear to help increase fishermen’s productivity.

“We really appreciate PT TIMAH Tbk’s concern for fishermen’s safety. Hopefully, there will be more CSR programs in the future, not only providing safety equipment but also fishing gear or even boats,” he said.

Yova also noted that PT TIMAH Tbk has consistently provided support to local communities, including through food assistance and other social programs.

This assistance is part of PT TIMAH Tbk’s commitment to strengthening the safety and sustainability of the traditional fisheries sector in its operational areas. The distribution of life jackets also reflects the company’s attention to the risks fishermen often face while working at sea.
