BANGKA BARAT – As part of its commitment to supporting education, PT Timah focuses on human resource development and offers opportunities for students and university students to intern.
This internship program is part of PT Timah's efforts to help the younger generation gain hands-on experience in the workforce while preparing them to face industry challenges.
Recently, PT Timah once again facilitated students from SMKN 1 Mentok to intern at the company. Before starting the internship, 12th-grade students from the Industrial Electronics Engineering (TEI) department received a pre-internship briefing.
On Tuesday (October 15, 2024), Kopdi Saragih, Sub Division Head of Processing & Refinery at PT Timah, provided an overview of the internship process at PT Timah.
Sriyanto, the principal of SMK Negeri 1 Mentok, explained that the briefing was held to ensure that students understood the rules and regulations before starting their internships at PT Timah.
He mentioned that SMKN 1 Mentok has had a longstanding collaboration with PT Timah to support the internship program, which is part of the school's curriculum.
"Our students from the Industrial Electronics Engineering and Industrial Chemistry departments participate in internships. Before the students enter the industry, especially at PT Timah on the 20th, we want them to have an idea of what the internship process will be like," he said.
The briefing is intended to help students understand the work environment and the rules they must follow during their internships at PT Timah, as it differs from the school setting.
"This is not the first time SMK Negeri 1 Mentok has collaborated with PT Timah; it has happened many times. One of our departments, Industrial Chemistry, was initiated by PT Timah," he added.
The collaboration between PT Timah and the school has been ongoing for a long time, including facilitating school events and involving students in environmental activities such as mangrove planting.
One student, Tasya, expressed that the briefing was valuable and beneficial for them before starting their internship.
"The briefing was very helpful. We got to know PT Timah through the speaker's presentation. Hopefully, this will make it easier for us to learn during the internship," she said.
Similarly, Zacki Anugrah, a 12th-grade student, mentioned that after listening to the briefing, he became interested in becoming an employee at PT Timah.
"After hearing the briefing, I want to start the internship quickly at PT Timah and hopefully get hired as an employee," he said. (*)
