SETUNAK -- In order to encourage food security and improve the community's economy, PT Timah Tbk has empowered fishermen group communities on Setunak Island, Tulang Village District, Selat Gelam.
PT Timah Tbk empowers the Setunak Bersatu Pokdakan to cultivate mud crabs. PT Timah Tbk also trains and provides assistance to the Setunak Bersatu Pokdakan.
Through this community empowerment program, PT Timah Tbk seeks to improve the economy of the people who generally work as fishermen.
The chairman of the Setunak Bersatu Pokdakan, Apid expressed that he was very pleased with the empowerment program carried out by PT Timah Tbk.
According to him, the fishing community on Setunak Island supports this activity.
"As a community, we feel lucky to get the attention of PT Timah Tbk, because the company has helped the community here a lot," he said.
He said that in the crab cultivation program, his party was also given crab cultivation training.
"We were invited to Jepara to see firsthand how to raise crabs and also learn with people who have succeeded in cultivating crabs. PT Timah Tbk also provides crab seeds and assistance," he said.
According to him, through this program, his party got a lot of new knowledge about crab cultivation. So that they can maximize their crab cultivation.
"For this first time, we managed to harvest approximately 20 kg, quite happy but we are not satisfied with what has been achieved so far. In the future, we hope that PT Timah can continue to support and provide assistance so that the results can be maximized," he said.
