BANGKA -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk continues to demonstrate its commitment to preserving traditional arts and supporting religious activities. Most recently, the company provided assistance to the Al Istiqomah Islamic Study Group (Majelis Taklim Al Istiqomah) in Kampung Saber, Belinyu, Bangka Regency, to help procure rebana instruments and other supporting equipment.
Through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, PT TIMAH aims to support the group's training sessions and performances, which have long been constrained by limited facilities and equipment.
Suharnis, Secretary of the Al Istiqomah Islamic Study Group, said the assistance is highly meaningful for the rebana group, which was established around seven years ago. Over the years, many of their instruments have become damaged, forcing members to borrow equipment for both practice sessions and public performances.
"We are truly grateful for and greatly helped by this assistance. The support will be used to purchase new rebana instruments, make uniforms, and improve our sound system. Our existing equipment has been heavily damaged, so we have often had to borrow instruments for practice and performances," she said.
She explained that because the group's equipment is no longer in proper condition, the frequency of their practice sessions—which were usually held twice a week—has had to be reduced to prevent further damage.
"Whenever we have an upcoming performance, we usually practice twice a week. However, because our instruments are damaged, we haven't been able to practice as effectively as we would like," she added.
The rebana group is frequently invited to perform at various religious events, including Islamic study gatherings, community celebrations, and activities organized by the Badan Kontak Majelis Taklim (BKMT).
According to Suharnis, the new equipment will boost the members' enthusiasm to continue practicing and preserving the tradition of rebana music.
"God willing, with the new instruments, the women in our group will be even more motivated to practice. Rebana is also a way to encourage younger generations to preserve this Islamic artistic tradition. We hope PT TIMAH continues to grow and prosper so it can keep supporting the community. Thank you for the assistance," she concluded.
