PANGKALPINANG -- Sumapermila, a resident of Belinyu, Bangka Belitung Regency, did not know that her husband Rasyidi received BPJS Employment Social Security protection facilitated by PT Timah.
She was only discovered after her husband, who worked as a fisherman, died of illness some time ago. She received information from fellow fishermen that her husband, who was the breadwinner of the family, was registered with BPJS Employment, which was assisted by PT Timah.
He said this when he received the PT Timah CSR Fisherman Death Guarantee claim for the heirs in the PT Timah Main Meeting Room, on Friday (6/9/2024).
The PT Timah CSR Fisherman Membership Death Insurance claim was handed over by the Head of PT Timah CSR Division Rahmat Taufik and the Head of BPJS Employment Pangkalpinang, Abdul Shoheh to the heirs of Rasyidi, Sumapermila, and Rizon who are the heirs of Erlansyah.
"I didn't know that my husband was a BPJS Employment participant, his friend told him. We looked for it and found out there was a card. After taking care of it, thank God the claim was disbursed today," he said.
She said that after her husband died, she had to provide for her children who were still at school even though his other children often helped him.
With this compensation, they will use it as capital for their business to open a shop so that they can help their family's economy.
"I plan to start a small shop business from this donation. So I can meet my daily needs and also my children's school fees. I didn't expect PT Timah to care about us fishermen. Because maybe if there wasn't any from PT Timah like this, we don't know," said Rasyidi's wife.
Previously, PT Timah had a program to protect fishermen and vulnerable groups starting in 2022. A total of 959 fishermen have received BPJS Employment protection which was facilitated by members of the MIND ID Mining Industry Holding.
Head of BPJS Employment Pangkalpinang, Abdul Shoheh, appreciated PT Timah for caring not only about workers but also the surrounding community by providing Employment Social Security protection for fishermen and elderly groups to protect against work accidents and death.
"PT Timah cares about fishermen in the operational area. So assistance is not only in the form of fishing gear but also in the form of BPJS Employment. When fishermen are active there is a risk of accidents and death. So social protection needs to be provided," he said.
According to him, the nominal compensation cannot replace those who have died due to illness or accident. But it is hoped that it can help the economy, for children's education.
"This is one form of PT Timah's concern for the community. With the CSR program, PT Timah also socializes BPJS employment. Because this is not only for workers in companies, but can also be for fishermen, farmers, and other independent workers. Many benefits can be obtained if you take part in this participation," he explained.
He hopes that this compensation can benefit the heirs so that later it can help them continue living.
Meanwhile, the Head of Corporate Communications at PT Timah, Anggi Siahaan, said that the BPJS Employment social security protection program facilitated by PT Timah had started in 2022.
"This program has been implemented by PT Timah since 2023. A total of 959 fishermen and vulnerable groups facilitated by PT Timah received the BPJS Employment social security program spread across the company's operational areas," said Anggi.
Anggi hopes that this social protection program can provide benefits for families so that later they can support the family's economic independence if they experience a disaster.
"PT Timah continues to be committed to being present and growing with the community. Through the TJSL program PT Timah strives to provide programs that can help the community," he said. (*)
