PANGKALPINANG -- PT Timah’s commitment to preserving marine ecosystems and supporting the welfare of fishermen continues to be carried out sustainably. Through the Fishing Ground program, PT Timah aims to create designated fishing areas for local fishermen.
A fishing ground is an area that is created or managed specifically to improve fishery productivity. Since 2020, PT Timah has been implementing the Fishing Ground program.
This program is expected to expand fishing zones so that fishermen do not need to venture too far offshore. The creation of new fish habitats through the sinking of fish aggregating devices (FADs or rumpon) is intended to help increase fish catches.
Between 2020 and 2025, PT Timah has submerged 1,434 rumpon units of various designs across several fishing ground areas in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, spread across Bangka Regency, Central Bangka Regency, and West Bangka Regency.
The Fishing Ground program is also intended to help local fishermen operate more efficiently and save on fuel costs when fishing. Therefore, PT Timah invites the community to help protect these Fishing Ground spots.
As a member of the MIND ID Mining Industry Holding, PT Timah collaborates with fisher groups and local community organizations in this program. Fishermen are also involved in the process of making the rumpon.
PT Timah’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, stated that through the Fishing Ground Program, PT Timah is committed to both preserving marine ecosystems and improving fishermen’s livelihoods.
"The Fishing Ground Program is one of PT Timah's initiatives to ensure the sustainability of marine ecosystems, carried out in collaboration with fishermen, the government, and other stakeholders, with the hope of improving fishermen’s welfare," said Anggi.
The Fishing Ground program implemented by PT Timah Tbk is also aligned with the company’s commitment to Environmental Social Governance (ESG) by empowering community groups, particularly fishermen.
