Struggling Against Hirschsprung Disease, PT TIMAH Tbk Extends Support to Help Ease Medical Expenses

BANGKA -- PT TIMAH Tbk once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting communities by providing assistance to residents in its operational areas. This time, the support was given to Kayla, affectionately known as Kekey, a resident of Sungailiat, Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province.

At not yet six years old, Kekey has been facing a long and challenging battle against Hirschsprung disease, a disorder of the intestinal nerves that prevents normal bowel movements. As a result, she has had to undergo a series of intensive medical procedures, including major surgery—an immense challenge for a child her age.

Amid economic limitations and the lengthy treatment process, PT TIMAH stepped in to provide assistance as a form of care and concern for the surrounding community.

The assistance was directly handed over to Kekey’s parents on Tuesday (March 31, 2026) in Sungailiat, Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province.

Kekey’s father, Imam, is currently suffering from a stroke, which has left him unable to carry out his usual activities. Meanwhile, her mother, Dira Febby, who works as a canteen attendant, has become the sole breadwinner for the family.

Imam explained that Kekey’s condition initially appeared to be a common digestive issue. However, over time, she was unable to have bowel movements without medication and at one point went as long as a full month without it.

“At first, it seemed like regular constipation and she was given medication. But over time, we realized that without medicine, she couldn’t have bowel movements at all,” he said.

This condition led Kekey to undergo further medical examinations, where she was eventually diagnosed with Hirschsprung disease, requiring surgery to remove the non-functioning nerves and sections of the intestine.

“After the diagnosis, Kekey was referred to a hospital in Palembang with more complete medical facilities. She underwent surgery to remove the affected nerves and intestine. For now, she has to use a stoma bag attached to her abdomen as a waste disposal system,” he explained.

From January to March 2026, Kekey’s family had to stay in Palembang to undergo a series of medical examinations and treatments.

Seeing these circumstances, PT TIMAH provided assistance to help ease the family’s medical expenses. This support is expected to help ensure the continuity of Kekey’s treatment.

Imam expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the support extended to his family.

“I am very grateful to PT TIMAH for the assistance and support given to our family. This support is very important for the continuation of our child Kekey’s treatment,” he said.
