Strengthening the Local Economy, PT Timah Provides Capital for 158 MSMEs

PANGKALPINANG -- To support local economic empowerment, PT Timah actively backs Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to grow and contribute more significantly to the national economy.

Through the Micro Small Business Funding Program (PUMK), PT Timah supports the progress of MSMEs in its operational areas by providing capital assistance, training, mentoring, promotion, and marketing to help local MSMEs become more competitive and independent.

From January to October 2024, PT Timah has disbursed capital loans to 158 MSMEs amounting to IDR 7.5 billion. This funding is facilitated by Bank BRI.

Since 2000, PT Timah has nurtured over 9,000 MSMEs across its operational areas, including the Bangka Belitung Islands, Riau, and Riau Islands Provinces.

The MSMEs partnered with PT Timah operate in various sectors such as services, agriculture, fisheries, creative industries, crafts, and culinary.

"Every year, PT Timah provides capital loans through the PUMK program for MSME actors. This is part of the company's efforts to encourage the development and independence of MSMEs to create job opportunities," said the company representative.

Access to capital for MSMEs in the form of loans aims to help them increase production capacity, expand markets, and innovate new products.

"We hope that when MSMEs have sufficient access to capital, they can reach more customers and improve their product quality," said Anggi.

In addition to providing capital, PT Timah routinely holds training and workshops for MSME actors to enhance their competitiveness. These trainings cover financial management and digital marketing. "One of the most effective ways to support MSMEs is through capacity building. Therefore, PT Timah often provides training to help them tackle the ever-evolving business challenges," said Anggi Siahaan, Department Head of Communication at PT Timah.

As a member of the MIND ID mining industry holding, PT Timah also actively facilitates product promotion for MSMEs by involving them in various local and national exhibitions, encouraging partners to utilize digital platforms for marketing their products.

From the promotional and marketing side, PT Timah also assists its partners in marketing their products at galleries provided, such as TINS Gallery and Rumah BUMN Belitung.

PT Timah encourages its employees to support the MSME shopping movement, often holding MSME bazaars during company events.

According to Anggi, PT Timah remains committed to advancing MSMEs through sustainable support. By collaborating with the government, Rumah BUMN, and related parties, the company hopes to create a more conducive and sustainable business climate for MSMEs.

With this support, PT Timah aims for MSMEs to become more independent, innovative, and competitive, thereby contributing more significantly to Indonesia's economy. (*)
