BANGKA -- PT TIMAH Tbk once again extended medical assistance to those in need. This time, PT TIMAH Tbk provided financial aid for the medical treatment of M. Arkana Alfariqzi, a toddler who is bravely battling a heart condition.
Arkana Alfariqzi, a resident of Air Ruai, Bangka Regency, was diagnosed with a heart defect when he was only three days old. Now two years old, Arkana continues to undergo intensive treatment at a hospital in Jakarta.
Arkana’s father, Ego Siah Putra, explained that after further medical examinations, doctors discovered that his son also suffers from lung complications, requiring continuous intensive care.
“When my son was three days old, he was diagnosed with a heart defect. At first, the limited medical equipment in Bangka could only detect one issue, but after being referred to Jakarta, we learned that Arkana not only had a heart defect but also lung problems and possibly six to seven other complex medical conditions,” Ego shared.
Ego said that they had been in Jakarta for two months for treatment, and at one point, Arkana’s condition deteriorated, causing his scheduled surgery to be postponed.
“Thankfully, one of the heart defects was successfully repaired. However, the second one had to be postponed because performing both at once would be too risky. Six months after the operation, a follow-up checkup in Jakarta showed that Arkana’s heart condition had improved. Now we’re hoping that as he grows older, the second defect will close on its own,” he explained.
As a day laborer, Ego has faced financial difficulties in covering his son’s medical expenses. The treatment costs are substantial, and he relies on assistance from various parties, including PT TIMAH Tbk.
Their situation is further complicated by Arkana’s special nutritional needs. Following his doctor’s recommendation, Arkana must consume a specialized formula administered through a nasal tube directly to his stomach.
“These medical needs have greatly impacted our financial stability. While in Jakarta, the cost of oxygen alone is very expensive, adding to our burden. The special milk recommended by the doctor is costly and cannot be replaced with regular food. We’re fortunate that BPJS covers part of the expenses,” he said.
Ego expressed his gratitude for PT TIMAH Tbk’s support, noting that this is the second time the company has helped his family. The assistance means a great deal to them and helps ease the burden of Arkana’s treatment costs.
“We are very grateful for PT TIMAH Tbk’s help. May the company continue to be blessed with success and be able to keep supporting children in need of medical care. We also wish good health to all the employees,” he concluded. (*)
