PANGKALPINANG -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk continues to demonstrate its commitment to improving the welfare of fishermen in its operational areas.
Through various corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, PT TIMAH Tbk has provided assistance ranging from fishing equipment and coastal infrastructure support to repairs for boats damaged in accidents at sea.
These initiatives are part of the company’s collaborative efforts with local communities to promote regional economic growth while strengthening the resilience of the fisheries sector in coastal areas.
In 2025, PT TIMAH Tbk distributed assistance to more than a dozen fishermen groups across the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Riau Province, and the Kepulauan Riau.

The distribution of fishing equipment such as outboard motors and nets is expected to improve fishermen’s productivity at sea, enabling them to optimize their catches.
In addition, PT TIMAH Tbk has supported the development and improvement of infrastructure that supports fishing activities, including boat mooring facilities, dredging of estuary channels, and other supporting facilities.
The company has also provided boat repair assistance for fishermen who have experienced accidents while at sea. These repairs reflect the company’s concern to help fishermen return to work and meet their families’ economic needs.
One of the groups receiving assistance was the Laut Tersenyum Fishermen Joint Business Group in Desa Burong Mandi, Belitung Timur. The group’s chairman, Sugian, said the fishermen who received small outboard motors were those who had previously been involved in marine accidents due to extreme weather.
He expressed appreciation for PT TIMAH Tbk’s care and support for the fishermen of Burong Mandi Village, noting that the engines are greatly needed, especially since they are expensive.
“Thank you to PT TIMAH’s CSR program for helping fishermen who experienced accidents. This is very helpful, especially amid current economic conditions and unpredictable catches. Buying these engines ourselves would be quite costly for us,” he said.
Similarly, Dedi, Secretary of the Ratu Laut Joint Business Group in Desa Kundur, said that their group received fishing gear assistance from PT TIMAH Tbk.
“This is the first year we’ve received assistance from PT TIMAH Tbk. The support will be used to purchase fishing gear, especially shrimp nets, since most fishermen here rely on shrimp nets,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Department Head of Corporate Communication at PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk said that supporting fishermen is part of the company’s commitment to grow and develop together with communities around its mining areas.
“As a company operating in coastal regions, PT TIMAH Tbk plays a role in supporting the sustainability of local livelihoods, including fishermen. We hope this assistance will increase productivity while strengthening the fishermen’s economy,” he said.
