EAST BELITUNG -- The Sembahyang Rebut celebration at Hok Tek Che Temple in Kelapa Kampit District, East Belitung Regency, was also marked by a social initiative to distribute food assistance to people in need. As part of the activity, PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk provided one ton of rice to the Kelapa Kampit Temple Foundation for distribution to local residents.
The assistance was provided in support of the Sembahyang Rebut celebrations, which took place from August 26–28, 2026, at Pering Temple and Hok Tek Che Temple.
Rina Chandra, a representative of the Kelapa Kampit Temple Foundation, said social activities are an integral part of the Sembahyang Rebut celebrations. Assistance collected from various parties is subsequently distributed to residents in need.
“As part of the Sembahyang Rebut celebrations, we also conduct social activities by distributing rice assistance to people in need,” Rina said.
She explained that the one ton of rice provided by PT TIMAH was part of the assistance collected from several donors and other parties. The assistance was then distributed to residents in Kelapa Kampit District.
Recipients came from various backgrounds, particularly those in need, including elderly people, fishermen, widows, and low-income residents.
“We distribute assistance from PT TIMAH and other donors to residents in Kelapa Kampit District, particularly the elderly, fishermen, widows, and people in need,” she said.
According to Rina, the charitable activity has become an annual social tradition. Since 2015, the Kelapa Kampit Temple Foundation has continued to distribute assistance as a form of concern for the surrounding community.
She said the activity has become even more meaningful as some members of the community continue to face economic pressures and need support to meet their daily needs.
“We have carried out this social activity year after year. Economic conditions are quite challenging at the moment, so the people who receive this assistance certainly feel helped,” she said.
In addition to being part of a religious tradition, Sembahyang Rebut also serves as a moment for the community to share and express gratitude. For this reason, social activities are intentionally incorporated into the celebrations so that their benefits can reach a wider segment of the community.
“The Sembahyang Rebut celebration is an expression of gratitude. It also provides a moment for us to share with the community,” she explained.
Rina noted that PT TIMAH has also provided support for similar activities in previous years. According to her, the company's assistance has greatly contributed to the smooth implementation of the foundation's annual social activities.
“We are very grateful for the assistance from PT TIMAH. All of the assistance provided has been distributed to the community. PT TIMAH also supported us last year, and we are very grateful for the strong synergy that has been established,” she concluded. (*)
