Riau Silip Elementary School 01 Students Learn Tin History at the Pangkalpinang Indonesian Tin Museum

PANGKALPINANG -- The Indonesian Tin Museum (MTI) in Pangkalpinang City has become a tourist destination for those visiting Bangka Island.

As a historical tourism destination, MTI Pangkalpinang is not only visited by tourists but also by students. As did students from SD Negeri 01 Riau Silip who visited MTI Pangkalpinang, Saturday (19/11/2022).

Idris, the Principal of SD Negeri 01 Riau Silip, said that the visit to the Tin Museum was a way for students to learn about natural resources in Bangka Belitung.

"This visit is a means of learning outside of school as well as to adjust the new curriculum, one of which is about Strengthening Pancasila and adding insight for students to know the history of tin mining in Indonesia," he said.

He admitted, not all students know about tin that comes from Bangka Island, therefore through this visit the schools invite students to get to know the history of tin in Bangka Belitung.

Idris explained, at MTI Pangkalpinang students could get to know various tools for extracting tin from time to time. In addition, students also saw various kinds of tin mining equipment from time to time.

"Here the students are given an understanding of what a Dredger is, what is a Suction Production Ship and how it works, and so on, so it is hoped that children from Bangka Island can get to know the history of Tin which is still keep mining," he said.

Rafleo (9), one of the students, said that he was happy to be able to come to the Tin Museum and to know the history of tin on the island of Bangka.

"I am very happy to be able to come to this museum, and now know about the history of tin and the various excavation tools used to search for tin," he said.
