Restore Critical Land in Bangka Belitung, PT Timah Tbk Supports Hijau Biru Babelku Movement

WEST BANGKA -- The Provincial Government of the Bangka Belitung Islands is promoting the Hijau Biru Babelku program as an effort to reorganize this ex-mining land on Timah Island. PT Timah Tbk also supports the Bangka Belitung Provincial Government program by carrying out joint planting on ex-mining land without a permit in the Foot Menumbing Area, Muntok District, West Bangka Regency, Sunday (14/8/2022).

PT Timah Tbk as a tin mining company that represents the country has consistently carried out reclamation of ex-mining land by planting and reclamation in other forms.

President Director of PT Timah Tbk, Achmad Ardianto was involved in planting trees in the Foothills Menumbing Area as a form of support for the Hijau Biru Babelku Program.

PT Timah Tbk also provides facilities in the form of providing heavy equipment to carry out land clearing in the area so that trees can be planted. This is because the planted area is a former mining area without a permit.

The Governor of Bangka Belitung Ridwan Djamaluddin said this activity was aimed at inviting the community to be involved in environmental management.

"So far, since we planned for structuring, there have been lots of accurate reports on illegal mining, making it easier for the Sat Pol PP security officers, the police to carry out their duties. We invite the surrounding community to help guard," Ridwan explained.

According to him, to restore this ex-mining land requires a joint movement so that the mission to save this critical land can be successful and consistent.

"These grass roots are very encouraging, hopefully these grasses will become big trees, driven by youth organizations that involve all of us," he said.

Meanwhile, the Regent of West Bangka H.Sukirman said that in order to reduce the criticality of this land, we don't just rely on natural recovery, it is necessary to make efforts to improve one of them by planting in locations where the land is critical.

"Rehabilitation of land and forests cannot be carried out by the government alone, but community awareness to preserve forest and land is also very important as capital for environmental recovery," said the Regent.

Chairman of the Hijau Biru Bangka Belitung Movement Movement Team, Bambang Dwi Hartono, said the activity was a form of action from a branding on social media that received a good response from the public.

"Starting from a branding on social media about reforestation, it got a good response in the community. Then raise awareness for a better direction. One of them is we carry out planting actions, giving seeds to students so that this activity becomes a branding for reforestation in the future," said Bambang.

This planting activity was also continued with
release of the endemic fish of Bangka Belitung and the release of birds.*
