PANGKALPINANG—To ensure sustainable and responsible mining practices, PT Timah continues to balance operational activities with the preservation of ecosystems.
One of the efforts PT Timah undertakes to protect the ecosystem is the monitoring of marine life in the coastal areas of its operational regions, such as the waters of Bangka, Kundur, and Karimun.
The purpose of marine life monitoring is to ensure that mining activities do not have a significant impact on marine biodiversity. This is important because marine ecosystems are crucial in maintaining ecological balance.
PT Timah periodically monitors the quality of marine life in collaboration with marine experts from universities.
The marine life monitoring aligns with PT Timah Tbk’s environmental documents (AMDAL), as outlined in the Environmental Management Plan (RKL) and Environmental Monitoring Plan (RPL).
This activity is part of PT Timah Tbk's environmental protection and management (PPLH) efforts in mining. The preparation of these documents refers to the Decree of the Minister of Environment No. 45 of 2005 concerning Guidelines for the Preparation of RKL and RPL Reports.
The results of the monitoring are used as a basis for determining necessary mitigation steps to maintain the quality of the marine ecosystem.
Additionally, the collected data is reported transparently to the government and relevant parties as part of the company’s responsibility in environmental preservation.
"With continuous monitoring and appropriate mitigation actions, PT Timah is committed to ensuring that mining activities do not compromise the sustainability of marine environments. The company will continue to innovate with environmentally friendly technologies," said Anggi Siahaan, Department Head of Corporate Communication at PT Timah. (*)
