Received Fishing Gear Aid from PT Timah, Musdar: We’re More Motivated to Go Fishing

SOUTH BANGKA -- To support the improvement of community welfare, PT Timah Tbk has provided fishing gear assistance in the form of nets to the fishing group KUB Nelayan Pesisir Batu Kodok in South Bangka Regency.

Dozens of fishing net packs were handed over directly by PT Timah’s Sea Mining Supervisor, Juli Armansyah, accompanied by the CSR team, to the head of KUB Nelayan Pesisir Batu Kodok, Musdar Paidi (55), in Teladan Urban Village on Tuesday (27/5/2025).

This fishing net aid is part of the company’s Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program aimed at empowering coastal community economies. With this support, it is hoped that fishermen's catch results will improve.

Musdar Paidi said this assistance was very much needed, as many of the nets owned by his group members were already damaged. As traditional fishermen, they feel greatly helped by the new nets.

“These nets are exactly what we need, because the old ones are badly damaged. We also previously received net assistance from PT Timah through the Baher team. Alhamdulillah, we’ve received more help now and it really means a lot to us,” he said.

He shared that many of the old nets had faded in color and become brittle, which affected the catch. Moreover, their yields are often unpredictable, and their earnings are only enough for daily needs.

“Buying new nets is quite expensive, so Alhamdulillah we’re grateful to get this for free from PT Timah. These nets really affect our catch—if the nets are discolored, the fish can detect them. But with these shiny new nets, the fish don’t notice and get caught more easily,” he explained.

Musdar also prayed for PT Timah’s continued success so they can keep supporting the community, including fishermen. This kind of collaboration, he said, can improve the livelihoods of fishermen.

“Thank you, PT Timah. May you continue to thrive and support fishing communities like ours. Hopefully, with these new nets, our catches will increase, and we’ll be even more motivated to go out to sea,” he said.
