PANGKALPINANG -- PT Timah remains committed to carrying out post-mining reclamation as part of its tangible efforts in implementing sustainable environmental management. As a member of the MIND ID mining industry holding, the company conducts reclamation both on land and at sea. PT Timah's reclamation programs apply ecological and social-based approaches, ensuring that the reclamation process not only restores ecosystems but also benefits surrounding communities.
PT Timah's land reclamation activities include the replanting of fast-growing species such as acacia, sengon, beach pine, and ketapang. The company also plants productive or economically valuable crops like oil palm, rubber, and fruit trees, alongside local species such as cashew, pelawan, seruk/puspa, and gelam, which are planted among the main fast-growing trees.
From 2015 to 2024, PT Timah has reclaimed 3,221.73 hectares of former mining land located in Bangka, West Bangka, Central Bangka, South Bangka, Belitung, East Belitung, and cross-district mining permit areas (IUP).
Another form of reclamation implemented by PT Timah is based on suggestions and/or agreements with stakeholders, such as developing tourism areas, constructing public facilities, and supporting crop cultivation and other uses.
PT Timah also collaborates with local communities and regional governments in carrying out reclamation activities. These collaborative programs are intended not only to restore environmental ecosystems but also to improve community welfare.
"Reclamation is not just an obligation, but a long-term commitment of the Company to environmental sustainability. We hope that former mining lands can once again be useful for both the community and the environment," said Anggi Siahaan, Department Head of Corporate Communication at PT Timah.
Anggi also noted that in addition to implementing reclamation programs, PT Timah supports environmental management efforts carried out in collaboration with local governments, stakeholders, and ministries.
"Sustainable environmental management is one of the company’s priorities. That’s why the company also participates in stakeholder-led environmental initiatives such as mangrove planting, productive tree planting, and reforestation," Anggi concluded.
