BANGKA – In supporting community sanitation, PT Timah Tbk built three individual bath, washing, and toilet facilities for three residents in Jelitik Village, Sungailiat District, Bangka Regency.
The construction of toilets is an effort to improve the quality of public health by having their own latrine.
Iskandar (39), one of the recipients of toilet assistance from PT Timah Tbk, said that so far he has not had a personal toilet due to limited funds to build a toilet.
He said that as odd jobs, their income is uncertain, sometimes they only have a mediocre meal for their daily meals. Sometimes he is a lamp salesman, sometimes he is also a laborer.
Usually, for toilet needs, he and his family ride to his brother's house in front of theirs. However, with the construction of toilets in their homes, they no longer need to ride.
"If you take a shower and other things, you will go to the house of your sister in front, if you wash it in this house. Because there is no money, I want to build my own toilet," he said when met at the handover of the toilet, Monday (31/1/2022).
According to Iskandar, if they want to go to the toilet at night they have to leave the house, often feeling anxious. Therefore, he is very grateful to have his own toilet in the house.
"If you want to go to the toilet at night, you have to leave the house, that's sometimes scary too. But yeah, what are you going to do? If we still get water from the well, it doesn't matter as long as there is a toilet," he said.
Meanwhile, Jelitik Village Head Achmad Riyadi said that the residents who received toilet assistance from PT Timah Tbk were indeed residents who really needed it. For this reason, his party took the initiative to ask PT Timah Tbk for assistance.
Previously, last year PT Timah Tbk had also helped residents by making individual toilets. This is a follow-up program carried out with PT Timah Tbk to provide proper sanitation for the community and become part of the healthy family program.
“From us, the kelurahan sent a proposal to PT Timah Tbk regarding assistance to build toilets for residents who do not have toilets. There are 24 houses that do not have toilets, and last year the construction was completed and there are only three houses that do not have toilets,” he said.
He hopes that PT Timah Tbk will always contribute to providing the best for the community.
