Reclamation carried out by PT TIMAH Tbk on Belitung Island. Until mid-October 2022, 100 percent of the target has been completed. The realization of reclamation on Belitung Island has reached 110 hectares.

The reclamation program carried out on Belitung Island in 2022 was carried out in two districts, namely in Belitung Regency with 26 hectares, East Belitung Regency with 68 hectares, and 16 hectares across districts.

The form of reclamation carried out on Belitung Island in 2022 is by planting fruit crops, cassava, oil palm, and others.

In addition, other forms of reclamation are carried out by developing the Selinsing reclamation village which has now become a community tourist destination.

Head of the Environmental Service of East Belitung Regency, Novis Ezuar said, as one of the IUP holders in East Belitung Regency, PT TIMAH Tbk could be an example for other IUP holders.

"To carry out reclamation, which is an obligation for every IUP holder, by the reclamation plan that has been made by the company," said Novis.

According to Novis, it means that the company's commitment to the implementation of reclamation must be carried out. Then the reclamation that has been carried out must also continue to be monitored and maintained so that it can grow well.

"PT TIMAH as one of the stakeholders in the development in East Belitung is also expected to play an active role in environmental management," he explained.

According to him, the reclamation carried out must be balanced with the economic benefits obtained. Therefore, programs related to the environment must continue to be implemented, so that sustainable development can be realized in East Belitung.

Novis continued, the impact of reclamation for Beltim is very important, because the open land in Beltim is getting wider.

"Reclamation activities must be carried out properly so that open land is reduced," he said.

Moreover, he said, with the current climate change that has occurred, where rainfall is increasing. This is because the land cover can prevent erosion and flooding, which are currently common.

"In the future, reclamation is also expected to be able to bring back Belitong's local plants which are increasingly disappearing, as well as economic benefits for the community from these reclamation activities," he said.
